It's amazing what a win can do for a player's confidence.

And for those at the Sturt Football Club, last round's one-point upset victory against Glenelg has created a noticeably buoyant mood at Unley.

"There's a better feeling around the club," Sturt playmaker Jade Sheedy said.

"It gets the boys thinking differently and now we've got 25 to 30 good players vying for 21 spots, it's going to be harder to drop anyone."

But the 2002 Magarey Medallist knows Saturday's win will mean nothing if a similar effort isn't produced against Central District on Saturday.

"Central hasn't had the best start but with their full list I still rate them as the most dangerous club," Sheedy said.

"They've probably got the best forward line in the competition with one of the Gowans' and Matthew Slade resting up there. Then you've got (Daniel) Schell and (Luke) Cowan, they both played state footy last year in their positions, so it will be a good test for our backline."

Facing a tough test is key defender James McLeay, who is likely to get Ken Farmer Medallist Schell after quietening the influence of Tiger Matthew Duldig last week.

"We need blokes like that to really stand up and challenge themselves," Sheedy said. "He (McLeay) has been great. He's got a lot of respect from the boys around the club, he's young but very mature and definitely a future captain."

At selection Sturt lost wingman Daniel Wicks to a shoulder injury. His loss was countered by the resumption of Damian Squire, while David May (PHOS Camden) was included in the 22 and could make his debut.

Central was boosted by the inclusion of the Gowans twins, James (calf) and Chris (hamstring), who have recovered. Chris Musolino was cut.

the gowans the twin talls for the dogs will be the factor...if sturt can nuillify them then it will give us a better chance...but it going to be a tough battle...

mcleay on schell will be interesting but i think schell will win that one...a bit of height on him, altho james has the strength.

our midfield must fire and be strong and tough...if not, they will get brushed aside and wont stand a chance

McLeay is a backman....did a good job last week on duldig. If anything, Coad should play up forward but our lack of backmen means he too has to play down there. Coady, in a normal world, would play FP next to chambo.

We have to kick all our goals from the midfield me thinks.

agreed jimmy, Coady is not a full time back man, however he can be used in some situations, plays his best footy up forward and i speak from a persective of both a player and spectator when i played junior footy with him before he went to sturt. seen him do some awesome stuff.

I think Nelson proved last week that he plays his best footy for us out of the middle where he can provide some drive
he was inspirational against the Bays
he has been used in key defensive positions the last couple of years because we have lacked those type of players

just look back to a couple of years ago when he was runner up in the Magarey when he played mainly in the midfield
I for one would much rather he play out of the midfield, as would most DoubleBlues supporters I would think

From what I heard on the C31 show today the young Sturt ruckman did a pretty good job so maybe it wouldn't have made that much of a difference.

Roy Laird also mentioned that Mackenzie was probably the Dogs best ruckman ahead of Scoullar.

Angus Kurtze was the young ruckman and he did do a good job, started rucking at the first bounce and rucked for most of the game

Young Angus Kurtze was great - He gets in the mix as well when the ball hits the ground and his tireless efforts especially when Feast did his hamstring in the second quater meant he had to do it mostly by him self for the rest of the day !!!.
This Kid can play and sticks must leave him in the side.

I thought Will Paley was pretty good to - kicked 4 in the first half and then Laird changed to a better defender !!! When Chambo comes back he should play next to him as he will only get better !!!

Hurley - the kid just has so much class !!!

Coad must play as a forward he is just simply wasted down back. His first quater when we were under the pump was fantastic and he has got great hands and uses both side of the body very well for a taller player !!!

Bowen works hard but must get his hands on the ball a bit more !!!

We need defenders as we have the forwards amongst the mix already !!!!

Jay Sheedy must get a mention to - I think most people would say he probably brought his own footy again (39 touches)

In the reserves Burton and Bevo were great with a few juniors playin well especially Seb Paynter !!! We also had a couple more under 17s play again and they didnt look to shabby at all. I would of named them and Im sorry for not doing so but I threw away my budget at the end of the game cause I left thinkin we actually should of won that game.

3 out of 4 grade wins (with seniors just missin out) against Centrals is a good result for the club though.

Beveridge was listed in the Media and the Footy Budget as out for 3 weeks with a foot injury.


Is there a problem, because he should have played Seniors not Reserves yesterday?
