Norwood v Glenelg Rd 10 2006

Postby Wedgie » Fri Jun 09, 2006 1:19 pm

Another good article this morning pre-viewing the Bays v Norwood game on Monday. I'll be there and am looking forward to this match which usually attracts a good crowd. IMHO this game will go along way to determing if either Norwood or Glenelg make the finals, I'm tipping Glenelg, just.

BAYS ON REBOUND

Just how well did Glenelg learn the lessons from last week's upset one-point loss to Sturt at Brighton Rd?

Tigers coach Mark Mickan accused his players of being ill-prepared mentally, victims of believing - as hot favourites - the two premiership points were in the bank. No doubt Mickan would have rammed home the need to be switched on week-in, week-out, no matter who the opponent or circumstances.

Glenelg's game was littered with skill errors and poor decision-making and it paid the price against a committed Blues outfit. A repeat effort on Monday against Norwood at home is sure to be punished by a Redlegs outfit which also has a 4-4 win-loss record.

Norwood star Scott Borlace has described last week's 40-point loss to Central District as the club's worst performance this season.

Like Glenelg, the Redlegs' skills were dismal at times and Borlace said there had been an emphasis on lifting the standard at training this week.

"Glenelg is one of the form sides this year and we expect them to come back hard this week," Borlace said. "At 4-4 we are reasonably happy but we seem to take a couple of steps forward and a couple back. The competition is so tight to beat a side around the same position as us is important."

The Bays have been bolstered by the return of captain Ben Mules from a knee complaint. Ruory Kirby, Lucas Block and Daniel Kirk have been named in a 23-man squad while Jarrad Sundqvist (jaw) could not be considered and Brad Yeomans was omitted. Norwood was forced to make one change, with Matthew Thomas called up by Port Adelaide Power. David Yeomans, Brad Vassall and Nick Duigan have been included in an extended squad.

Me thinks the demons from last weeks loss to Sturt are being excised, half time the score is...

Glenelg 15 8
Norwood 1 3

We should be able to hang on from here..........

Maybe Culpy hasn't had enough coffee and is a tad lethargic....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I saw these two play in the opening game of the season and thought that Glenelg
were a bit unlucky to lose.
The kick in the arse from Sturt last week might be the motivation they needed for today.
