Players cashing on on past reputations

the recent events of one J Hay got me thinking and I am interested in people's thoughts

Q. Who is the biggest player going around living of past reputation, to qualify, he needed to be a good regular player for his club, but in the past 3-4 years has not lived up to his early form and reputation

I can think of

Dean Solomon, this guy has not got a kick for 5 years, obviously J Hay is another, J Rawlings comes to mind, Chad Morrisson from the pies

I'll agree with you in part. I think he needs to hand over his drinks card, & focus on the team aspects of footy. However, it made it easy for him to struggle last year, with KPP such as Rocca & Fraser being sidelined, they could either double team him, or he'd draw the best defender.
I challenge any club to succeed with a forward line built around 1 man. I believe he was carrying injury, & had to stay on the park due to Rocca & Fraser being out. He needs to lift his work rate this year, now that we have no excuse.

He is still a matchwinner albiet inconsistent.

You're right to an extent that without Rocca and Fraser it was easier for opposition clubs to man up on Collingwoods forward line as they were far more one dimensional.

As you alluded to and this is why I think Tarrant is over-rated is that he doesn't work hard off the ball if a lead isn't honoured he doesn't work back to provide an extra lead. He is more lazy than the average player for his level of ability hence why I think he is over-rated

However good clubs and players rise above that.

My Collingwood post did err on the side of shite stirring but I do believe that Collingwood have lived of two over achieving seasons in 2002 and 2003

I'm still surprised at the rating of Ottens ... Granted I've only seen a few Cats games this year, but I thought his ruck work was exceptional in those ... I think people's opinion of him are based more upon an over-inflated expectation of him at times (although not denying he could still improve his mobility) ...

Some others who perhaps haven't slipped as far as those mentioned in above lists, and who may have legitimate reason(s) for their downturn/lack of further improvement are, S. Dew and J. Fraser imho.

Interesting to note Essendon had a few players mentioned ... A harsh critic could also throw Jason Johnson into that mix and combined with the previous mistakes of holding onto Mercuri and (in particular) Misiti for too long, you have their problem in a nutshell!

I agree with the blokes who say Chris Tarrant. He has to be the most overrated player going around in the AFL.

Who do you think would be the most underrated bloke going around in AFL today?

If I had to chose the most underrated, I would have to go with Daniel Bradshaw, just over Brendan Lade.

these players arent cashing in on past reputations now but they were Shane Woewodin and Cupido.

Coaches realised that woewodin was past his best and Cupido as brilliant as his skills can be on rare occassions he does go missing in action a fair bit

I think if you look through every club there would be one or two players that you could suggest "haven't come on as far as we expected", guys like Ray Hall, Adam McPhee, Mark Bolton (geez the Bombers figure prominently in this discussion - throw Heffernan in as another) who either haven't played enough, or haven't delivered anything other than potential thus far, whilst not cashing in on past glory's as such...

Exactly! I can't believe oppositions don't rate him as high as guys like Riccutio, Goodwin, McLeod etc. Edwards has got to be the most consistently good player the Crows have ever had, along with Hart.
