Aerie - it is John Storer the club's historian and he is doing a great deal of work on the history books.

Well you have a one eyed supporter here who agrees with every point you make Wedgie! However, overall, I think the concept is great and it should be a great day.

No disrespect to the Eagles or the great concept of wearing heritage guernseys but...

When I saw that guernsey in the paper today, my first thought was why choose to wear it in a game against Glenelg - a team with very similar colours!

That Eagle (which looks more like a messy "V" to me...) could easily get mistaken for a Glenelg gold sash on the dark background... lucky it shouldn't be a muddy day tomorrow!

wouldn't be a problem if the Bays came to the party and wore their '34 jumpers.

Good point Pseudo - I shouldn't really be criticising the Eagles when they are doing much more to promote their history than we are! We should really raise the issue of wearing heritage guernseys with the hierarchy down the Bay.

The reason it is worn against the Bays is this is the game we have moved to Thebarton - our home game.

West Torrens Volume 2 (pre-WWII) was in the making. The books were hard cover, very thick and $120 each. They looked fantastic, with colour pictures and full of records etc. I think the man said he needed 100 people to show interest for it to be worth getting them printed. I put my name down for one. Does CD or anyone else closer to the club have any more info on these and the name of the person who compiled them? They look great and hopefully there is enough interest cos I'd love to own one.

$120!!!!

I'll put my name down for the Torrens one at least for now, however. 8)

How do I get in contact with John Storer, cd?

I'd like to offer my congruations to Eagles supporters.
After my post early this morning (which I still stand by and was an honest assessment of the guernsey) I honestly expected to come home 14 hours later to 5 pages of abuse but not 1 post disagreed with me.
I must admit I underestimated Eagles supporters in their judgement of something like this, well done lads! :D

I assume everyone agrees with me then?

The guernsey is a bit of a let down, the only positive thing about it is the old SANFL logo, but that was never used on guernseys!

Wedgie wrote:Very disappointed to see the replica Torrens guernsey today in the paper, a poor effort by the club and as a lover of the SANFL history I think they failed miserably on 4 points but I'm willing to conced on the last:

1) Fake laces look shocking, I was the biggest critic of North's first heritage guernsey when they did this, its also on the current Magpies guernsey, looks like a joke as laces were there for a practical purpose and not part of the actual design of the guernsey, no need to include them, they look gay.
2) Hill sponsorship, now correct me if I'm wrong but Hills weren't sponsoring Torrens in the 50s? Completely cheapens the guernsey and compromises the design. North found Robert Gerard very understanding when leaving Mistral off their heritage guernsey, I'm sure a great sponsor such as Hill would be willing to do the same for one week so as not to compromise the integrity of the guernsey
3) As above but this time with the Jax Sports emblem which isn't as big, if other clubs can manage no sponsors on their heritage guernsey how hard would be to leave off at least 1 on the front (I dread to see the back, could be another point there)
4) The Eagle, now unless my Bob Hank book has been doctored the Eagle on this new guernsey looks shocking

Some may think I'm being petty but as a loyal lover of the history of the SANFL I think a shocking job has been done here. I'll wear my heritage top from last year to show them how it should have been done. Poor effort Eagles.

(And I don't expect the usual one eyed suspects to agree with me on any points and may I point out I was just as critical of North's first effort on one of the points and would have been equally critical on all of the points if they'd arisen for North, this rant is made purely as a lover of the SANFL)

Above is an image of Geoff Kingston to compare guernsey's. Maybe the 1955 one was a little different to the above.

The Eagle is fine with the guernsey, but I don't think the Hills sponsorship should be splattered on top of it. Just for the one game they could have placed a smaller Hills logo on the top left and let the Eagle stand alone. Having said that, I don't like the sponsors logo's displayed in big letters on the chest of any guernsey. That is one thing (maybe the only thing) the AFL have over the SANFL.

Fake laces, they are tacky and I hate them, BUT although I still don't like thes ones, they are not 1/2 as bad as the one's that were on North's 2004, and West's 2005 Heritage tops.

It's a pitty Hills didn't take the lead shown by Robert Gerard last year when he got right into the heritage spirit and allowed North's heritage top to be a sponser free zone.

The old style SANFL logo, they wern't on the guernsey's back then, but I liked it on Norths last year, and I like it on the Eagles now.

The rest of the top, I'll reserve my opinion untill after I've seen it in the flesh today.

I actually reckon the Guernsey isn't that bad especially when compared to the one modelled by Geoff kingston (haven't journalistic standards gone down at the Addy since he left).

Agree with Aerie putting the Hills logo at the top of the guernsey not in the middle....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Colin, I totally support the concept of using a heritage jumper.

What I don't like is a heritage 'design' printed on a modern jumper. It has no charm to it.

If you revisit the heritage design again next season, can the club PLEASE make the jumpers exactly how they were for the period? Same material, button up collar ( if used in the period), real laces, rather than printed on

Please continue to support the heritage jumper design, but can you give my comments consideration?

I don''t like the advertising logos either, but that seems to be necessary these days to make these things happen. I am sure that the effect out on the ground will be amazing for the old West Torrens supporters, and I hope there is a big crowd at Thebarton to see it. I am really looking forward to this, and the club is to be very much commended on this initiative.

Why?

See below for North's effort last year, no advertising whatsoever (the pics don't do it justice as its a much deeper red, I'll wear mine today to give people an idea of what a heritage guernsey should look like.
