Minor round only at Smithfield

All the way through for us. Some players go missing in finals, years gone by B & F winners could have been different if we counted finals. We do now, and the results will be interesting...

thats strange..every club i have been at stops at minor rd..maybe a player of the finals but b&f votes are minor rd only

impressed with moon on saturday...very quick and fit

I think votes should go through finals and actually agree with SD that they should get extra votes for playing well in finals. It is the big games where you want players to stand up and play well and players should be rewarded for doing that.

finals is more about the reward for the team or club- promotion/premiership etc rather than any personal accolades.

Been away for one night and had about 10 pages to catch up on. Chatty bunch aren't we! Nice to be in the top 4 vote getters in the Magoos and i think fourth is exactly where ill be!
Nation is my tip to take out the ressies medal. In the A grade im going for Duggy closley followed by Loffler and Warburton.

Agree. Finals is whole different ball game and 1 game only, although is the most important game but previous 18 are what counts in player performances to get there.

Then I guess we have to agree to disagree! :)

P.S. Andre Kulpe to easily win the C5 medal! That will make it a clean sweep for HV. (pushing shit up hill I know!)

Colonel Light Gardens vs Hope Valley

In what I am dubbing the ‘Battle of the Paychecks’, one side will walk away from this game partly satisfied that their big bucks have been well spent after stitching up promotion to Division 5. For the loser, they will shell out more cash to secure the cut-throat Preliminary Final at their home ground. Who will walk off Mortlock Park with an air of justification?

Solidarity and confidence are crucial in a final’s atmosphere and the Demon’s have both by their side. Having played Brahma Lodge the week before may have contributed to a slow start in the QF, but only good sides come back from them. Having played contrasting footy in the one game will be more than enough to demonstrate what it takes to win a final (and how easy it is to lose them). The same mistake won’t be made twice and spectators are likely to see an even better brand of football from a side unified by a coaching reappointment. The only question mark lies over the soreness of the side. The season can be draining and a final equally as gruelling. How does this stack up to a side that was leisurely putting away the beers on Saturday? Have celebrations started early for the Lions? Or are they drinking to avoid question marks over their personnel for next year?

CLG’s last game was against West Croydon two weeks ago, but more interestingly, their last game against top five opposition was way back in Round 14! And they lost!! To Hope Valley!!! The plot thickens. The nature of the Lions’ team come this Saturday is unpredictable. Yes, they will be full of adrenaline and they will talk about what it’s going to take to win, but I can see it taking a quarter or two for them actually realise it. Perhaps this game will be won and lost in the first half. The Lions will have the legs at the end so Hope Valley would ideally like to be a couple up at the last break.

The forecast is for a wet weekend and conditions could nullify the influence of the full forwards. I don’t think CLG have anyone to out-muscle big Jimmy Hann and he could chest a couple in the goalsquare. Harvey could be distracted by a looming 100 goals, counting them down, how many this game, how many next game. There’s only one thing on his mind when the ball is in is hands and I don’t think a team can afford selfishness when goals may be hard to come by. Whoever gets him will have a nervous day in the square. However, it will be the small blokes who influence the result and the win will require the type of grit showed by the Demon’s last week. The goalscoring options are aplenty among the small blokes of Hope Valley and they’ll all need to make a contribution for a win. The midfields will be evenly matched, both teams have some great players in the engine room, although I think CLG have the edge in the ruck department and clean taps could prove invaluable on a wet day when good clearances are vital. A key to the Lions’ success this year has been its drive off the half back in Green and Sheridan and will need to get plenty of the ball to aid the linkages.

Tough pick, as all finals should be, but I think CLG could be underdone if that’s possible. And how willing will they be to put their bodies on the line on a slippery day? Hope Valley will have belief from victory and will take momentum and winning formula into the game. The Demons by 11 points.
