Oh for sure, no argument there whatsoever mate ... We're a long way off that though and unfortunately in the current era, I don't think the gap will ever be bridged until we develop an income stream to rival the big 4 (particularly the top 2), but sadly that's at least 5 years away at best, hence the bewildering decision to sell the club to the Yanks instead of the DIC who it's believed would have been more likely to throw some decent bikkies at big name players ala Romanovich with the Grinners.

One thing Rafa has done, and I like this, is buy good kids in recent years ... As rare as it is, unearthing some youngsters that rival the ability of say Ronaldo or Rooney or Fabregas might be our best chance of taking some extra steps.

In the link in the transfer thread to the Man City takeover, the DIC have stated that their goal is to win the Premier Leage title and take Citeh into the top 4 this season   .

It's going to take probably a £250m+ investment in players to get to an EPL winning stage.

Would have been much cheaper and easier at Liverpool given the likes of Stevvie G and Torres to build a team around. Citeh have....um......errr.....?????

Just hang on to that thought DA and read the Man City topic DIC have money to burn and have put in bids of £98m today.

Massive, massive news today is that Kevin Keegan has parted ways with Newcastle after a disagreement with management over the clubs participation (or lack thereof) during the summer transfer window.

Keegan managed 21 games and won 6.

Mike Ashley was shown at the Emirates on Saturday skulling a pint in the stands with his shirtless yobbo mates. If he spent more time acting like a club owner and less time acting like a hooligan in the stands, the Geordies might be taken seriously.

Actually, scrap that, the Geordies will always be a laughing stock.

Leigh Matthews is available.....

looks like Toon have done a bak flip of Keegan.

Keegan has told friends that he has been sacked, but Toon say he is part of thier long term plans.

Alan Curbishley has left West Ham Utd

Alan Curbishley says he was forced to walk away from West Ham over the club's decision to sell two key defenders. Anton Ferdinand and George McCartney both left for Sunderland before the close of the transfer windows - deals which left Curbishley fuming.

Curbishley had been keen to bolster his squad with loan deals, but his request was turned down after being informed players needed to leave before fresh faces could be brought in. The former Charlton manager had believed there was an agreement in place that gave him sole responsibility for the make-up of his squad and following the duo's departures, Curbishley was left with little choice but to leave.

Reserve team coach Kevin Keen has been handed control of first-team affairs until a long-term successor can be found, with ex-Hammer Slaven Bilic among the frontrunners to replace Curbishley.

IMHO RAFA trying to hedge his bets, a) keep our boys at home and b) trying to scaremonger over ritchie rich clubs and c) lol, try to forward a subtle message to our (*cough* Yankee MoFo's *cough*) owners who promised competitive transfer money, once upon a time among other things

Classic Sven!

Interesting to note at the end of the article, Carragher says playing for 'Liver bird' always came before playing for England.
