I have mates who have said the same thing with Centrals/Salisbury North in the Under 19s.

u 19s is the worst idea the amateur league have came up with,
1. at 19 you should be playing snr footy, i thought playing u18 was bad enough
2. Any 1 who gets dropped from their saafl u/18 (or u19 if they keep old structure) would play A grade snr footy,it alot higher standard and they prob can get some $$$
3. How many 19 year old want to play at 10:15 in morning
4. It clashes with school footy aswell

where are they going to get these players from, have u17s or 18s but i heard that a few clubs are interested in u17s

Someone raised the issue at last night's NEMJFA meeting after 11 clubs said they would definately field Under 17's in 2009, regardless of whether the comp is run by NEMJFA or the SAAFL.

The NEMJFA executive don't want to run Under 17's so it looks as though the SAAFL will have a solid foundation of Under 17 teams in 2009, at least from the NE suburbs.

NEMJFA will also introduce an Under 7's comp, in addition to the Under 6's and Under 8's, as currently a kid in Under 8's can be just 6 years old for the whole season, (he could turn 7 late in the year), and he could currently be playing against kids who are just a couple of months away from turning 9, an age difference not allowed in any other grade.

This will affect us greatly as we have 10-15 players whom this year would play in A or B Grade on the Saturday and then again for Under 18s on the Sunday and if we went the Under 19 option we wouldnt allow them to play two games on the same day so we would be short of players for one team and then we may not be able to field an Under 17 team as half our current Under 18 team would be too old to play.

What happened to the consultation with the clubs??
Whatever makes you happy

i know that the MSJFL would be happy to accomodate the U/17's comp next year as there u/17's comp is going well this year.
the move of the saafl is a backward step, once they have played u/18's they should be moving into the senior competition by then.
pearcy do you know which clubs are looking at playing in the a u/17 comp next year from the nemjfa?

I may not be the best example (as smac will tell you), but I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one.

Glad you stuck your own hand up there mate!

At the younger levels it doesn't matter as much but I can understand a league club wanting 19yo players to play in the best competition available to them locally (in Centrals case that would be Salisbury North) as opposed to a club in a lower division.

I understand that mate, but do you think centrals Under 19 side would beat Salisbury's A grade side? I would think that it would still be a step-up, playing against full-grown bodies. Obviously not as good as A1, but would still think A3 is better than Under 19 level.

A few years ago Port Districts(in A1) use to play trial games against Port 19's...................From memory Districts won a couple and the U/19's won a couple...........this was probably 10 years ago now.

From memory Athelstone and Broadies were opposed, can't remember any other clubs having too much negative stuff to say about it. Walkies don't have 16's and Pooraka, P/Hills and a couple of others stopped at 14's or 15's this year. CDJFL clubs weren't interested. So, of the 17 NEMJFA clubs, 11 were strongly in favour. As far as Geppies are concerned we have to decide whether the Under 17's are a junior team, run by the junior commitee, or a senior team, run by the Div 1 SAAFL footy club. We are trying the get an additional oval with training lights too as we are very short of space for all the junior teams, so if any club near Gepps wants some extra $$$ then PM. (A couple of local clubs approached this year, Greenies and Kilburn, were'nt interested even though they could have made some easy cash).

Athelstone opposed ? that's a strange one, their lower division in the 16's this year got belted most weeks but the coaching guys were adament that they'd rather have the boys getting a kick than not.
Broadys 16's still may have a suspention to fill after being banned at the end of the year.

I think we're all waiting until the SAAFL make a move.

As far as I know it's official - SAAFL Under 17's and 19's.

BTW I said 11 NEMJFA clubs, it was 9, who said they will definately run an Under 17's team.

Salisbury weren't in the ammos at the time I was playing 19's at Centrals, but it was a definite step up from Salisbury to Centrals 19s. Salisbury were on level terms with Salisbury North in the NMFL at that stage.

Well, Geppies 18's are in the "western division", so I guess our 17's will be too.

It is all good and well for those at SAAFL house to say "lets have U/19s" the problem will be how many clubs are going to be interested?
I know mine will not be and a couple of others in the area wont be either

Anyone think their club will be interested?

Is this something that should have been voted on at a delegates meeting?

2 years ago port 19s had a trial match with henley who were div 1 at the time, ports 19s smacked them off the park by about 10 goals. henley used the excuse that they were playing a heap of B graders but the 19s were also playing kids to see if they would make the squad.

what im trying to say is if a kid is not getting selected to play u/19s levell and is alligned to a div 1 club they should be playing at least B grade otherwise they shouldnt be in a SANFL u/19s squad.
