Take pride out of it and that's one of the deciding factors of this game, the other is that Sturt have the minor prem to play for. Good chance for the Doggies to test players and structures.

win, lose or draw they'll be having a dip, if a player has a slight injury they wont play him but for the blokes that do play they'll go 100% because when you don't go 100% that is when you get hurt, i think central will be trying to make a statement to all sides in the finals by trying to beat sturt
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Unless of course Centrals and Sturt have a St. Kilda/ Essendon arrangement in place.

Lol. If we didn't play anyone with a slight injury then we'd be fielding an under 19s side! the boys will be having a go with this one. We won't be playing blokes if they're a good chance of re-injuring a hammy or something but if you go into a game with the main goal being not picking up an injury then you're in the wrong comp.

SATURDAY 6th SEPTEMBER 2008 Vs STURT @ HAMRA HOMES OVAL, ELIZABETH
Full Forward: Scott Dutschke, Daniel Schell, Ian Callinan Half Forwards: Chad O'Sullivan, Heath Lawry, Luke McCabe Centre Line: Brayden O'Hara, James Gowans, Elijah Ware Half Backs: Andrew Hayes, Jeremy Aufderheide, Ryan Williams Full Backs: Adam Switala, Yves Sibenaler, Richard Cochrane
Rucks: Jonathon Giles, Paul Thomas, Matthew Slade
Interchange (from): Trent Goodrem, Chris Gowans, Louis Hadden, Jason Mackenzie and Matthew Westhoff
INS:C.Gowans, Schell, Auferhiede, M.Westhoff
OUTS:Moss, Cowan ( + 2 from the extended interchange - likely Hadden and Goodrem ? )
That is an interesting side for the big clash agianst Sturt...
Great to see Jeremy Aufderhiede back in the league side having not played for a couple of seasons after having a knee reconstruction and battling soft tissue injuries and form. I worry that having not played league football for so long and to be thrown into the side in the last minor round might be a bit too much for Jezza but we all know he is capable and it is more defensive height which we have been missing since Hav and Schelly have been missing through injury.
Good to see Daniel Schell back (if he does actually play) at the expense of the inconsistent Luke Cowan. Schelly can always be moved to defence if needed and Jezza is capable as a forward so Roy could throw a bit of a suprise. James Moss is out of the side by the looks of it and from the extended interchange bench, Louis Hadden and Trent Goodrem might struggle to keep their spot. Chris Gowans plays if fully fit and although I didn't think he could play for us until finals, but if Matty Westhoff is available, he has to play because he has played in defence as well so he gives us another tall option.
I really like the look of that side and think that we will be a real chance to give Sturt a bit of a shake. Not 100% convinced on bringing Jezza in but let's hope I'm proved wrong, he'd be like a new recruit really, having not played for so long. We will just have to wait until Saturday afternoon to see who is running around in the 2's as to who the selectors decided the final 21 would be. I really hope both Schelly and Chris Gowans play and good luck to Jezza !!

Glad to see Schelly back in the side, giving some much needed potency in the forward line. If M. Westhoff makes the league side, even more. Surprised to see Aufterhide back in the side, but he could be just what the defence needs.
The two that are cut from the interchange bench will be stiff, shows how strong this side is going to be Saturday night.
Crowd-wise I'd expect the game to attract about 8000. The Crows final starts at 2, so should finish at about 4:30 - giving those who want to go to both plenty of time to cross from AAMI to Hamra (which takes about 35 minutes).
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10
John Reid from the Crows on 5AA now giving out Adelaide's side for the final against Collingwood...
INS: Brad Moran
OUTS: Jason Porplycia (shoulder)
So Brent Rielly couldn't make the Crows side so unless they hold him back from playing to be an emergency, he will play Saturday night, in his 3rd game thus qualifying for finals for Sturt. He's a handy inclusion for them come finals time if he plays, making them even harder to beat.

Reilly wasn't named in the Sturt squad so perhaps the Crows have a few late moves to make yet...

I wonder if Moss is being dropped because he sh!t himself last week when having to stand under a high ball in the back half . I thought he looked good besides that error of judgement and though there would be a few to go before him.
I thought that last week it was your lack of height in defence that gave us some optimism with a forward line consisting Willits, Ferguson and Moran it was a pity they didn't get enough of the ball and the ball they did get was not to that height advantage. Having Aufderheide and Schell back in certainly covers that deficiency. Looks like a good side all over the ground and one that should give Sturt a real shake.

Although the 3 game qualification rule has worked in favour of thw Dogs in a couple of premiership years gone by with the likes of Stuart Dew and Stuart Cochrane only playing the bare minimum minor round games, spending the majority of the year in the AFL, then coming into SANFL finals, I don't think the requirement of just 3 games is a good one.
There has been talk in years gone by of increasing the finals qualification number to 5 minor round games and I think it's something that the SANFL need to seriously address once again. I actually don't have a problem with Reilly playing for Sturt in the finals this year, assuming he does qualify on Saturday night, because he has had an injury interrupted AFL season with the Crows and it's not like he played EVERY game in the Adelaide side up until the last 2 or 3 minor round SANFL games and came in just to qualify, it's also been about finding form for him.
I think that changing the rule to 5 games is alright but IMO, I think it should be even more than that, I'd say 8 or 10 games. It's really unfair that a young kid, or in some scenarios in years gone by club veterans, miss out on selection in finals and even Premiership sides because they have had to make way for someone that has hardly played in the sid all year but is an AFL player and makes the cut ahead of them. There has been discussions in many seasons gone by about the SANFL addressing it but nothing has ever come of it. It needs to change I reckon...
In fact, I feel like creating a poll to see what other fans think out there think. maybe i'll then send it to the SANFL and that will give them some food for thought to perhaps seriously look at it ?
Reilly certainly gives Sturt that extra edge come finals time...hopefully the Crows win this week, some mug gets injured and Reilly goes back into that side...
I think some Sturt fans would be hoping for a similar result...
