Brian Harris should be in that team, at the very least on the bench.

It just shows how much the AFL has gone backwards in the last 15-20 years.
Put those sides talent wise up against the same sides of 15-20 years ago, if not longer ago and they wouldn't have got within 10 goals.

Rounding out afl.com.au's mythical State Teams is the Big V (boo):

VICTORIA

B: David Wirrpanda (WCE), Matthew Scarlett (Geel), Dustin Fletcher (Ess)
HB: Heath Shaw (Coll), Lance Whitnall (Carl), Dane Swan (Coll)
C: Cameron Bruce (Melb), Scott West (WB), Travis Johnstone (Melb)
HF: Adam Goodes (Syd), Jonathan Brown (Bris), Gary Ablett (Geel)
F: Brad Johnson (WB), Barry Hall (Syd), Brendan Fevola (Carl)
FOLL: Jeff White (Melb), Chris Judd (WCE), Nick Dal Santo (St K)

I/C: James McDonald (Melb), Luke Hodge (Haw), Sam Mitchell (Haw), Troy Simmonds (Rich)

EMG: Jude Bolton (Syd), Paul Chapman (Geel), Heath Scotland (Carl)

I have to say that this would have to be the most difficult side to pick - you only have to look at the quality of the players who have missed out to see how hard it would be.

Is that a team picked on who you consider to be the best SA talent in the AFL or based on performance leading up to April 4? Luke Darcy hasn't played a game for a long time and no way has he ever been better than Lade, ever. Sure he's a good player, but also one reason why WB haven't done anything for a long time. He doesn't dominate a game either as a ruckman or a up forward. Handy player, but thats all. An example where reputation exceeds abiltiy.

At the time it was based on talent only and if every one was fit !!!

I agree with your Lade comment only in part - he has been outstanding this year to date and actually is probably in front of Cox as the All Austarlian ruck man at this stage of the year and especially after his great game on the weekend !!!

As for Darcy I have seen him dominate games as a Ruckman - Follower & Forward !!! Just last year he kicked 5 goals in a quarter against the crows and Ben Rutten was standing him ( the only player to really beat him all year last year ) - he turned the game on its head and the Bulldogs won. Next game he did his knee against Geelong !!!

In a nut shell Lade would easily be the first ruck man choice today as he is in career best form and yes I actually do think he can play and im glad for him after the horror injuries he has had - @ April 4 there would of been alot of people who might not have actually put him in a SO side and may have actually lent towards Brogan in front of Lade cause as you know in the past Port have done the same thing !!!

What would Brendan Lade's odds be for taking out the Brownlow? He could be a good bet for those punters out there.

Agreed about Darcy, but I dont see him as someone who will constantly dominate, like a West, Johnson, or Grant.

What are the chances of holding that Vic forward line down?

HF: Adam Goodes (Syd), Jonathan Brown (Bris), Gary Ablett (Geel)
F: Brad Johnson (WB), Barry Hall (Syd), Brendan Fevola (Carl)

What a cracker....

That's right Boon - then you have also got Cameron Bruce & Chris Judd popping up for their couple of goals a match as well.

Rivers at CHB what a joke, this guy hasn't got a kick all year, surely Kenny McGregor offes the side more flexibility

Scotty Thompson, on this years form does not get a jumper and Sam Fisher also has missed plenty of footy.

Mcleod needs to play of HB and Cooney is named on reputation alone

Interesting to see the only SANFL club not represented in the State team is the most dominant team of the current era.

Port - 7 representatives
West - 6
Glenelg - 4
South - 3
Eagles - 2
Sturt - 1
Norwood - 1
North - 1
Central - 0

Blue Boy

I can't see how anyone would rate Rivers in front of McGregor, for me Rivers has not yet delivered at AFL level, Kenny has proven he can do jobs... Pavlich was in red hot form before the crows played freo in perth and Kenny took the Pav apart.

Unless you play Chad Cornes at CHB, for me Kenny has to be the next best option

In regards to Cooney, the kid has obvious potential to burn, but the games I have seen him play he floats in and out of matches too much, he is great for 20 minutes then you don't see him for 30 minutes and unfortunately he does pull out of contest.

I am sure he will develop in these areas but we are getting in a habit of rewarding players on potential and before they have delivered at high level on a consistent basis
