Under 17 & Under 19 Competition for SAAFL

Adelaide Footy League Talk

Once again the SAAFL has jumped the gun without talking to the clubs officially.
No delegates meeting since the beginning of August and none until November and they spring this one on us so by the time we get to a meeting things will be so far down the track that we will be forced into this situation.

Any player not playing U/19 should be playing reserves or A grade football not in pseduo U/19 competition. Just a case of Shadiac wanting his own thing again. [-X [-X [-X [-X [-X [-X

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

i agree with you fourth estate, there will not be too many clubs that will be running any teams, it will make teir senior side struggle.

My understanding of the 19's comp is that it's set up for the old scholars teams to be able to field teams straight out of 1st & 2nd 18's when they finish school.
The only example I can relate to is the Blackfriars lads that leave & still want to play with their present & ex teammates from the 1sts. They can go straight to BOS but from what I can gather, with the numbers lining up for a game meant that they were rostering off blokes in the B's each week so all could get a kick. Not an ideal situation.
BOC's could field a C's side but the difference in body size between kids straight from school & some of the hard nuts that play C's from the club sides, especially the division that they now occupy, just would'nt be a workable situation.
Hey soccer you owe us 45million.

18 and 19 year old lads would play Cgrade and Bgrade footy comfortably. I have coached some that have played div6 and div6r footy easily.

Absolutely, but I'm talking school OS where you don't have the ''protection'' of harder older blokes to step in if things go pearshaped.

I may not be the best example (as smac will tell you), but I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one.

Glad you stuck your own hand up there mate!

At the younger levels it doesn't matter as much but I can understand a league club wanting 19yo players to play in the best competition available to them locally (in Centrals case that would be Salisbury North) as opposed to a club in a lower division.
I understand that mate, but do you think centrals Under 19 side would beat Salisbury's A grade side? I would think that it would still be a step-up, playing against full-grown bodies. Obviously not as good as A1, but would still think A3 is better than Under 19 level.

Salisbury weren't in the ammos at the time I was playing 19's at Centrals, but it was a definite step up from Salisbury to Centrals 19s. Salisbury were on level terms with Salisbury North in the NMFL at that stage.
I obviously don't remember the NMFL so I wouldn't know the standard there mate, but at the moment there's a couple of guys who are fringe 19s players at Centrals who struggled to get a game in our A Grade during the year, and have struggled at times to play good footy in the B Grade as well.

And finished the season with 3 under 15's and about 7 or 8 under 17's. The cycle is turning as it does - it's only 5 years since we beat Port by 90+ points in the under 19's GF...

I think he's gone looking for Jeff & Beryll. Needed time to digest the season now it's finished. Bad luck to you TT, a great effort though. Div 5 next year is just another challenge, just don't go looking in our postcode, keep your letters in your own bag!!!
