I got dropped for a GF in 95 to allow my best mate to come back from a shoulder injury, it scarred me for ages, especially considering my made stuffed his shoulder in the first 5 minutes of the game and took no further part until the after-party, I got a medallion and my name on the laminated position sheet we all got given, wow.

Oh yeah, I'm in the team photo that got taken 10 minutes after the team-sheets got put up, i look wrapt, 1st emergency.

Thanks HB#3, I was having a good day.

I remember when the great Robert Cains played every game for the year and was even captain and got dropped for the Grand final!! Was a Portland B grade game. Still makes us laugh every time we pay him out about it cos he rates himself a fair bit

Your brother must be feeling a bit hard done by. No doubt the SAAFL will tell him he can't play the GF even though he's played half the year in the Ressies.

What about players included in GF for wrong reasons, eg: club sentimental favourite or is son of committee member etc......

In 2003 I played all year in the A's at GG, got injured in first final loss and then got a permit 2 weeks later to play a B Grade Granny along with 2 other A Graders. 3 B graders failed fitness tests on the Thursday night so we slotted in but it was a very shallow victory for me... being my first ever B Grade game too.... gave my GF guernsey to the bloke who missed out... Just didn't feel like 'my team' if that makes any sense...
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

how did you even get a permit? i played 10 matches in both As and B's this this year (played 1st week of finals in Bs and 2nd week in A's with A's get KO) and didnt get a permit. Guess they have changed the rules.

i think it would be a good idea 4 ppl to be able to see the permit form each player who gets a permit (how many matches they played 4 each grade), so you could use precedent in deciding if a player gets a permit or not

if you had played 70% of the games in the b s then you prob could have got the permit after the second final but bec you played 9 and 9 its not majority...if the A s had made it then you prob would have played A s but i think the rule is if you play 2 finals in the higher gr you cant go back down...
THE NEW ERA BEGINS.....HIRD AND THOMPSON.....EX CAPTAINS EX CHAMPIONS EX.....cellent choice

i played every game in 91 except the one that mattered. I was bedridden all week and had to withdraw on the morning of the match. The guys won by 10 points. We lost in 90, 92 and 97 and still I haven't played in a winning GF.

In the 90 GF, half way through the second quarter I did my anterior cruciate and was 'out' for 8 weeks. Not that it mattered of course, but I sat on the bench and watched us get flogged.

In 92, our FF had a chance to kick a goal to put us in front with 30 seconds to go and kicked it OOTF.

In 97, we got pummelled but came from last the year before (Premier 3) to be runners up in Div 4. Good effort considering the year we had in 96 where we didn't get within 10 goals of the second bottom side.
