Ian Cox is also worthy of a mention. helped establish Langhorne Creek as a GSFL power. Took SFL to a new level with scouting opposition when he commenced with Bombers. Premiership in 2002 was very much based on massive homework done on opposition players and their strengths and weaknesses. We even knew what brand underwear players from other clubs were wearing. For the record, Marty Clifton preferred G-strings. Coxy then got Flaggies into finals for first time in years and now doing a great job with Glenelg Under 17's.
Heard that he the old ladies in the canteen were impressed especially when he had them on back to front.
For the record Cox is a fantasitic coach and player. A loss to the SFL
Coaches: Christies Beach will be Excelby from Ironbank with a couple of players.
Morphett Vale - Norm Bergman. A great people person/manager of players.
what players will exelby be bringing from ironbank lastword ?

Switching venues during finals just confuses too many. No problem with games being played on home grounds. Apparently gate takings for finals are currently up on previous years which vindicates the choice of venues plus the pretty good weather. I heard someone say crowd at Bice on Saturday was a bit low but nearing the end of the B grade it looked fairly full. I reckon many non Reynella and Brighton people cleared out early to go home and watch the Crows. The Brighton posse down the south-western flank made alot of noise and had healthy numbers. With no SA teams left in AFL finals by SFL Prelim week for the first time in years, we should get some ripper crowds this weekend. I hope the Shoe turns on another good day this Sunday Shoe Boy. Just need a different result this time and hopefully no "incidents".
Lastly, I know alot of you want the GF back at Porties. Its OK if you are in your car on the outer but if your club is involved in the A grade and you prefer to be on the "members" side then general viewing is terrible particularly with the bloody 2 story coach and timekeepers box that also blocks your view. If they had some sort of terracing or slope between coaches box and clubrooms it wouldn't be so bad but I reckon its one of the worst grounds to watch a game unless you are on the outer side. Every argument I read on this forum for going back to Porties is really catering for those who get in early with an esky full of grog, which is how and why we had poor crowd behaviour.
One funny story from the last GF played at Porties. Early in the Under 16 GF, several points had been scored and the scoreboard hadn't been altered. I wandered around to see what was happening and the scoreboard attendant had actually fallen asleep at his post. Gotta love suburban footy.

I thought it would have made sense that brighton played on the saturday and porties the sunday, just seems a little unfair in regards to recovery for the teams that played on sunday at dingie.

But the team that wins on saturday will have a full week until the Grand Final while the sunday side will only have 6 days, I think i can safely say, it won't come down to who had the longer rest.

King Kernas wrote:Have to agree there. SFL are just money hungry having the Prelims on separate days. Put them both on the Saturday and i bet you the crowd numbers would not be any different than separating them the way it is now. Not very fair for the teams playing on Sunday.
Bring back the old Porties Grand final for a year and have the police and security presence (that south has) for a year and see if any trouble occurs. Sort of a trial run. I reckon people's behaviour would be alot different now, realising what they have lost, and how much more enjoyable, GF day down at Porties really is!![]()

I think the first week of finals should have the 2 double chance games on the Saturday and the 2 knockout games on Sunday. The following Semi week should have both games played on the Saturday and the following Prelim week also should have both games played on the Saturday. Then when it comes to the GF both teams have equal rest. Personally I hate playing on Sundays, and the 6 instead of 7 days off does make a difference to me.
I’m sure this is a deliberate concoction from the League in a attempt to get people to go to both games. It’s a bit of a joke though as in all my playing and supporting years I have NEVER gone to both Saturday and Sundays finals games unless my club was playing on both days. Then I’m stuck paying $6 for 1 Saturday U14 game and another $6 for the Sunday B Grade game, ?? aha there you go it’s so the league can screw $12 from the supporters, why am I not surprised. Far be it for the League to HELP by letting you watch the early first game on Saturday, get a pass out and head to the other later game after on the same day.

You're just like those Southern League Directors or maybe you are one, blaming all Porties GF problems on people with eskies of booze. That way you can keep the useless Panthers FC happy by giving them our Grand Final Day, I guess that’s the only way that ground will ever see any finals.
Lets put it into perspective shall we, the problem was a bunch of under aged kids with eskies of booze. I think me and the other grown ups with eskies managed their behavior just fine. Also if the Porties oval had the same security and police presence that the sterile Panthers oval has during the GF the poor crowd behavior you speak of would have been quickly stamped out. By the way have you tried to see behind the coaches boxes at the sterile Panthers ground or 2 deep under that hot tin roofed pergola, its hardly a great spectator experience, unless you’re 6 foot plus and in your speedos.

If a club has it's A grade and B grade playing at different grounds on the same day how are they going to work out issues such as trainers and even simple stuff like water bottles and tape?
