SMEG Appliances

Just wondering if other people have views on SMEG appliances. I have a work colleague who has had to have two ovens replaced due to the enamel peeling off.
Whatever makes you happy

Far too expensive and going by what you have just described a waste of money for an inferior product

We have in the past had Cannon [US], and Miele appliances and been very happy with them.
The current Bosch dishwasher is OK, but the previous Miele was much more quiet.

We endured a Smeg oven and exhaust fan in a house we rented in Adelaide for 6 months in late 2003 while we were back there for family reasons, and I concluded that I now understood why Smeg was a swear word in Red Dwarf. My wife found the oven temperature control was not sufficiently accurate, and the pop up down-draft exhaust system behind the Smeg cooker would not stay right up, and dropped back enough to break the contact and turn the fan off after a minute or two. I had to prop two cans of beans under it at each end each time she wanted to use it to keep it right up and working. The property agent could not have it fixed they said because the owners had found it kept recurring despite several rather expensive services that were supposed to fix it...

We had a few other issues with the place too, and got some money refunded at the end to resolve the disputes, but that is not relevant here.

Smeg is way overpriced as is Miele. Just remember that underneath the visual surface 99% of all manufacturers use the exact same components.

We got 18 years out of our previous Miele washing machine, and its temperature control and programming meant we could wash all sorts of things labelled "Dry Clean Only" successfully. The new model is even better. The last Miele dishwasher was so quiet you had to put your head down next to it to tell whether it was actually running, whereas we couldn't stay in the room with the earlier Simpson.
It must be the way they put the components together perhaps??

A keen cook may be attracted to the +/- 0.5 degrees C temperature control Gaggenauer offer on their ovens.

Simpson is your low end product so they do use cheaper components.
