I'd say even after winning the medal he still would have been soo depressed due to the fact they couldn't pronounce his name correctly that he would have gone home and killed himself.

Totally missed the point. It's called respect.
Of course the achievement of winning is going over-ride any disrespect, but he won't have been impressed by it and neither would his club. You could see that by his reaction to the other stuff-up on the monitor.
All it takes is a few moments, especially when you know who the winner is long before it is announced. I'm not a Bomber, but I make sure I know how to spell and pronounce their names correctly wherever possible. That includes all names from all clubs.

As long as the League made money off everybody for the Panthers Club, THEIR objective was achieved.

Would be intersted to hear everyones tips this weekend for the big game?

Cove have been the best team all year and deserved minor premiers. But another sluggish / shaky first half this week and i cant see the emus being so forgiving or running out of legs like porties did. They will need big games from all their gun players. Will be interested to see what Steve Hill does with Vick. his third 1/4 was pretty inspiring on saturday.

Morphies finals form so far has been above anything that we have seen during the normal season (as i am sure Valleys and brighton will testify). Every player has raised there game to another level and am expecting that to continue on saturday...

Emus by 28 points for me.

Emus for mine by 4 or 5 goals. They have played 8 complete quarters of footy in the finals, whilst Cove have played 5 or 6. Cove have finished their 2 finals games strongly but can't afford to live dangerously against the Emus.

I think the big ground will suit Cove a little more but not enough as it will be windy as usual and Morphett Vale play the windy conditions superbly. Interesting that I reckon whoever wins the toss will kick into the breeze.

As much as I'd like Morphett Vale to hand over the baton, I just don't want it to be Cove because Vics01 has just hurt me and my club a little too much over recent weeks. A man's not a rock Vics. Sorry Jono.

I'm just glad I don't have to eat my shoe.

Bit sick of still hearing all the crap from the weekend, let it go boys. Grandy this weekend, those in it i'm sure don't care about a few sour words had, that's footy. Those that are out.....speaks for itself and is the reason you are still going on. BDOS have had a great year and yeah they are not grand finalists but they do have a great list and snagged the medal so all is not lost I'm sure. Move on boys.

FOX,
I think BDOS and any club would be much happier with a GF APPEARANCE let alone a win. All may not be lost but a Mail Medal is no were near anything to write home about for a club. Good on the guy for winning but it’s a personal honor. It doesn’t help that it’s voted for by the umpires, cough, cough either. And as I said before never known one who knew much about football let alone players.
I’d say a team’s list may be something to keep your hopes up for but I wonder if they can keep it together and if its got some youth in it, or coming into it from their juniors otherwise they could end up out of the running all together in 09.

On the crowd argument you’re sick of, there is 420+ pages of discussion on this forum I don’t think its gonna run out of room soon, if you don’t want to read about it skip the posts and move on. I guess the crowd arguments are more interesting than the Mail Medal for some of us. Sorry if the Medal dosen't get my pecker up like you.

To add some more talking points, heres a summary of the years had by the Prelim Finalists so far:

Cove: Exceeded all expectations to only lose 1 minor round game(v brighton), and get the minor premiership. Has so far shaken the finals chokers tag by winning through to a gf, even if not in overly convincing fashion sometimes, but that doesnt matter, you only have to win to progress. Didn't recruit heavily if at all (Size I think only addition) so the core group of last 3 or 4 years plus great progression of youngsters miller, cameron, schneyder etc. have been great, also very well served by ex league players M and D Reavill. From the weekends prelim performances Im not sure they would go in favourite to the GF now, which probably helps them i reckon.

Morphett Vale: Had some doubters during the minor round by losing 4 games after an undefeated premiership year last year, but have showed everyone come finals time why they have won 4 in a row. Have lost a couple of key players to season injuries, but have seemed to cover them well because of their intense depth. No major new players this year and have that core group of players who know exactly what is required in key matches and key sections of the game. After absolutly smashing brighton in the prelim., would have earned GF favroutism. They no how to handle it, and seems the hunger is still there. Still on the day it is still hard to pick a winner. Will they pull it off for the outgoing coach?

Brighton: After a slow start vs. strong opposition in the early in the minor round, really got going in the mid and especially late in the year. As most said on this forum they were red hot favourites for the flag after round 18. In my opinion they choked big time. Reasons being, they made a grand final last year, and was said around the traps all was needed was a good ruckman and tall player to take the next step. In comes awesome ruckman brookman, ex league key position player statham and more gun juniors that they have, and they go and get beaten reasonabley well by cove, luckily get over the line against reynella, and get pantsed by MV. Finals form real questionable from some key players (injuries??? who knows? Hoare, King, Tucker, Noble) Bit a of a step back I reckon. Also had Johnstone in career best form (congrats on winning the Mail Medal). Maybe showed all their cards between rounds 14 and 18??

Port Noarlunga: Had an ok minor round, couldnt beat any in the top 5 but most of the time were real competitive with the top 5. By the end of the season had many talking bout what the league (other teams) need to do to bridge the gap on the "untouchable" top 5 . Missed a gun and leader in Manhood for the whole season, as well as some other key injuries. Invested a fair bit in youth with a good mix of quality older players, mainly key position. Had a couple of reasonablenew recruits (littlefield, heath etc.) . Finished year in 6th, played a new Morph park in elim final and won thrugh like many expected, but thats where everyone thought it would end. Massive upset in the semi vs. Valleys, and did it quite easily. Once again no one gave them a chance in the prelim vs minor premier Cove, but took it right up to them for most of the game, having them quite worried at half time. They would be happy with their year and progrssion of younger players and their finals form. Mannion will be a massive loss, but well done to PN in 08.

Great summary Petoe. Any chance of getting some odds for the GF? Maybe BOG, Most Goals, etc?

Jono, speculation that Size may be dropped this week for the big one. Any truth in this? Maybe Watts? from the magoos to take his place?

NO chance Specky, Watts is training with the group along with 3 or 4 others but i cannot see any changes taking place the only one that is doing the rounds is maybe White or Issacs coming in but that would not be for Size... Size has been good in both finals especially both last qtrs... His last qtr against Brighton in the first final was great because at that stage Brighton had closed to nine points and Gill went off injured he then dominated the centre square and around the ground work and Cve ran away with the game... I would expect, barring injuries or illness, Cove wil be unchanged... What about Morphett Vale as posted previous noticed him playing B grade Saturday will he come back into the A grade for the big one??

I think there would be one change to m/vale,one lad from m/vale looked pretty sore after last week, not sure of the extent of the injury but he was definately favouring his arm,i just didnt see who it was,if this was the case there would be several serviceable replacements in M.Joraslafsky,M.Byrne,N.Edwards.

While Joras is tall is a quality mid fielder as well.I think if there are any changes it may come from left field altho Joras played a good game in the B grade.Others that would be up there Drury,Rigg,Barton,Lock,Williams - BOG in the B grade on the weekend,Hoffman,Hislop. From left field i reckon Limpus and Wilson if they are looking for a genuine gun !!!!

Petoe. Good summary of the top 4. I would be interested in your thoughts of the rest especially the top 8.

No excuses here but as you probably know i am a supporter of Reynella and i do stick up for the coach and its players but have learnt an interesting fact about there year. They played 45 players thru the A grade this year. I am not sure about a stat like this with other clubs but that is a large amount of players to go thru the A grade dont you think.
