bye bye Mr Rudd

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

This week, Psyber. Of course of no relevance is the fact that Rudd has extended to 5 sitting days each week (adding a Friday) and is not going to be attending today.

Downer is under no obligation to attend every single day and I think he has the runs on the board to be able to choose what he believes to be the best use of his time. Also, his excuse that he couldn't stand listening to Gillard sounds pretty valid to me.

Yes, and she is much easier to listen to when she is not on stage and accidentally lets her "working class" accent drop.

HOW TO START EACH DAY WITH A POSITIVE OUTLOOK ...

1. Open a new file in your computer.

2. Name it "Kevin Rudd".

3. Send it to the Recycle Bin.

4. Empty the Recycle Bin.

5. Your PC will ask you. "Do you really want to get rid of
"Kevin Rudd ?"

6. Firmly Click "Yes."

7. Feel better?

Tomorrow we'll do Julia Gillard !!
I wish my remembering was as good as my forgetting

I was referring to the fact that she fakes it - it is not real and it disappears when she is caught off guard.
That's what is wrong with her working class accent.

In more general terms one could add the line from Henry Higgins, "..there are places where English is painful to your ears..."
And from Polonius, " ..this above all, to thine own self be true, it follows then, as doth the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man..."

I used to like the bumper sticker abroad in the late 1980s - "Fight organised crime - ban the ALP!"
I think it arose in relation to Paul Keating's pig farm investment that got approval against the local guidelines, and his house extensions in Rose Bay without council consent.

IS teh Rudd Government out of touch already....

Postby am Bays » Sun Sep 21, 2008 9:58 am

I see a report in tomorrows Fish 'n' chips wrappings has quoted NSW Labor MP, John Murphy, has got up in Federal parliament to complain about the size of the Beef Stroganoff portions served in teh MPs cafeteria.

The fact that these are provided at discount rates and that some people in Australia would love A SERVE of Beef Stroganoff speaks volumes for this government....

Rudd has "distanced himself" from the comments, WTF no censure and being made to apologise for insentive comments?
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I thought it was quite amusing the other day when Turnbull won the leadership battle that the only thing Rudd had to say, inspite of the biggest financial crisis the worlds has ever seen unravelling before him, that he was looking forward to working with Mr Turnbull on the republic issue...WTF???, WADH.

youve missed my point psyber, as PM he should be thinking about and dealing with pressing issues not searching for commonalities and being a try hard

He has addressed the financial crisis several times, but you only see what you want to see.

I hope they do work together for a republic, though. It's a bit much when your head of state is a citizen of one of your competitors.

Our biggest problem is the method of selection of head of state. I suspect the main reason the referendum fell over last time was that the politicians wanted, and only offered, the method hardly any other Australian wanted. The pollies seem to want a tame rubber stamp President, and the people perhaps want someone act for them to limit the power of the pollies...

That fits with our tendency to rarely give one party control of both houses,

I'd rather have any system to elect an Australian than the present absolutely, totally, undeniably undemocratic birthright superiority method currently foisted upon us.

I'd accept a Mongolian head of state for Oz if it meant my civil rights were protected from creeping paternalism, and the capacity for the head of state to not just be a ceremonial rubber stamp was preserved.

I was a Republican in 1961, but I voted against the model offered in the Referendum, because I wouldn't buy a Republic blindly, at any price!
Certainly not at the price of entrenching our ruling Oligarchy in an even more powerful and unchallengable position. I want a President or Governor who would be there to stand up for commonsense and civil rights as a form of Peoples' Ombudsman, not answer to the establishment and toe their line..

The Australian parliament is now lergely in the hands of those trained to lie for a living.

No, I just found leaving the status quo intact preferable to being sold a well-trained and controlled parliamentary pup!
As I said - I want a Republic, as I did over 40 years ago, but I want one that will work for the people, not for the party machines.

With respect, psyber, that's an indulgent attitude.

To embrace the worst and most undemocratic system because the model you're voting on isn't perfect is cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Why don't you apply the same critical examination to the current system?

Surely that's a valid question?
