Re: Edwardstown Moving to SFL
Dividing the league according to areas is a silly idea. it would mean to difference between the top and bottom sides in each division would on average be doubled. The strength of the amateur league is that teams of similar strength are grouped together.

Re: Edwardstown Moving to SFL
Let’s be reasonable. History shows that the Amateur League was founded because after five years of trying Uni wasn’t allowed into the existing Leagues of the time so was heavily involved in the formation of the Amateur League. Nintey eight years later it seems that the Amateur league is comprised of Clubs from at least 6 to 8 other Leagues (Sorry for the lack of research here). In reality if the Amateur League didn’t exist most of the Clubs playing in it today would have struggled to survive, especially those with one side. While we all love to bag the Amateur League the real question should be why did all of these other Leagues fold.
Perhaps other topic for a thread. I look forward to the responses.
Ps. I’m not Mark Shadiac.

Re: Edwardstown Moving to SFL
Edwardstown leaving for the Southern League maybe a start of things for clubs in the SAAFL.
The embarrassing run of the Amateur League at present is a sign of things to come if no changes are made at Amateur house sooner rather than later.
The debacle on Grand Final day is one thing with the catering etc but how much more do we have to stand for? I know i've had enough of it & i only want whats best for our Competition like everyone else, its a pity the hierachy don't think like we do.
Isn't it their job to run the competition as proffessional as can be & think about the Comp instead of themselves all the time?
I urge every Amateur follower to stand up for our comp & demand changes to the powers above that do nothing to benifit our competition. The sooner we do this the sooner our League goes forward instead of backwards.

Re: Edwardstown Moving to SFL
Edwardstown was apparently going to defect last year... didn't happen. Be very surprised if this actually happens next year.
As to SAAFL house, they do seem to be getting out of touch with the resources of member clubs, particularly the smaller ones. I'd like to see someone take 'em on if that's what No Mercy has in mind...

Who would be a better option NM? I see lots of complaining about the current situation with no alternatives being offered. Try to be constructive and change may in fact happen.

Re: Edwardstown Moving to SFL
Making changes at Tynte street is always hard with Shadiac running the show.
Several of the members on the SAAFL board have been there for quite a while.
The new members of the Executive are hand picked mates of Shadiac I believe.
This is where change need to occur and can only be done at AGM with several Executive members up for re election this year
They don't care much about clubs when it comes to costs.
My question is and I ask this to NO MERCY what happened with the catering on saturday I wasn't there Saturday?
I don't believe that we should be playing Grand Finals at League grounds. They should be at SAAFL grounds. I know that not all clubs have fences but lower grade grand finals could be played at these grounds thus putting funds in clubs and not the same clubs getting finals every year.
I also believe that clubs with fences should pay for the right to host a final and not getting a free ride every week of the finals.
Expansion is also a problem with too many clubs having been admitted in the last few years.
One member of the SAAFL Executive said it was good for the league to have more clubs.
My counter arguement to this is that there are only so many players to go a round with the player pool getting thinner every year one only has to look at clubs that used to have 3,4 or 5 sides or clubs that have folded over the past few years.
Clubs have no say with new clubs coming into the league.
To be blunt Angle Vale should not have been admitted and neither should have Blackfriars OS.
the closeness of Black Friars to other clubs only increases the congestion of clubs in the City-North area.
Question where did thier players come from? They say the School but if you have alook at their player list you will find that most came from other SAAFL clubs from their junior programs. These are players that would have been playing seniors for thier club but are not.
Introducing a U/19 comp only deletes the player pool even further this will only benefit College sides as a defacto intercollegiate program. Any U/19 coming player coming out of the SANFL would be playing in a SAAFL B Grade side at the minimum.
The lack of open age state football is another problem. Too many average players are now earning a state jumper. It is a slap in the face to all the former state players that had to work their butt off to represent the state.
If you want to be the best in the league you should be playing in the top grade not getting a free ride because of your age.
Now is the time for change. I believe that it is now or never. We can say what we like in thses forums or actually do something about it. It is up to us and our club delegates to push the changes.

Re: Edwardstown Moving to SFL
I can confirm that Edwardstown WILL be part of the SFL in 09. They will come in with A/B/18 and a chance of 16.
What is your thoughts, how will they go,will they be competative??
My Mail is spot on straight from the executives of the SFL.

Hey zed, looks like your prayers might be answered.
4th Estate, I don't think Blackfriars or Angle Vale have retarded any other club with their entrance into the league, I do think that Under 19's is a backward step though.

When will it be made "official" to allow the SAAFL to make the required adjustments to the competition?
