Horse Riding - Where to go?

Postby Dissident » Fri Sep 26, 2008 4:12 pm

Hi all

The missus' birthday is coming up and she really wants to go horse riding somewhere. I told her no, but I'm going to get it for her anyway.

Does anyone know where is a good place to go? As in, I can get a voucher, or book it etc.

I am north east, near Modbury so nothing REALLY far away would be nice!

Cheers,

D

I went to a place called Tara Rise at Woodside for lessons, but I don't know if it is still there.
There used to be a few places listed in the Yellow Pages under H for horses and E for equestrian, and you may find a listing nearer home.
The last time I rode in SA was at Rawnsley Park in the Flinders - my wife who had never ridden at all coped with a half day ride there.

Yes still there. Michael and Michelle I think it was - Tara Rise (08) 8389 7030 Western Branch Rd, Woodside, SA, 5244
or more in your direction perhaps http://www.truelocal.com.au/search/Eque ... wler%2C+SA

The carousel at the Beach House (formerly Magic Mountain) 8)

On a serious note, I reckon if you contacted Riding for the Disabled they would be able to point you in the right direction - they may even have opportunities for the public themselves.

I also had a feeling you could go horseriding at Wirrina?

That is a bit out of date, JAS. The big impact was around 2003-04, after "hih" here went bust, and scared the entire insurance industry who jacked premiums massively. It was mostly the several day adventure ride out ventures that felt the pinch, like the horseback tour through the Snowy Mountains I was thinking of doing back then, not the local riding schools as much. I think someone has revived those since the insurance crisis has settled.

Medical Indemnity insurance for doctors in private practice blew out massively back then too, and there was a stampede of older doctors gearing up to retire by June 30th 2003 so they would still be covered in retirement under the old scheme, and not have to find $10K per year non-tax-deductible for 5 years in their retirement. Then Tony Abbott was appointed Minister of Health and introduced a government funded cap on insurance liability in that area. I remember one Sydney Neurosurgeon on radio saying he was quoted an insurance premium of $100K per annum, when his part-time private practice earned less than that.

Found a place, and it's only 15 minutes from home.
It's about 5 minutes past Inglewood (which is 10 minutes past TTG up North East Road).

1 hour 15 minutes, 30 minutes training, 30 minute trail ride - 15 minutes on/off time etc.

$45 a person.

Mate, any chance of getting over to London by next Friday?

A bunch of us are going Horse riding in Wales for the weekend and have a couple of spare spots to fill.

£200 each gets you 2 nights, all meals, a 6 hour horse trek to the 2nd highest peak in Wales, 1 free night's booze and return transport to London.

Do it!
