With Ackers getting near fit and Watho doing a fair bit of rucking, it's quite possible he'll end up back in our two's!! :?

North Adelaide Country Footy

I thought this was a good article on http://www.nafc.com.au and thought I'd share it:

Wayne Jeffries - Zone Management Director
3/7/06

Much is stated in football circles about the progress in football in South Australia.
Some say it struggles, some say it is vibrant.
The truth probably sits somewhere in the middle dependant on where you sit. Quite often the view the public hear comes from the AFL or SANFL and it demonstrates the views of the Executives of those organisations who work very hard at their respective organisations in a corporate and demanding role.

Little is heard from the administrators of our country football leagues.
North has two leagues within its country promotional zone. The Spencer Gulf League comprising the Port Pirie and the Port Augusta League, and the Northern Areas Football Association on the other side of the Southern Flinders Ranges. Quite generally, the Administrators of these leagues have been performing a fantastic job in ensuring that football is alive and well in the Mid North.
This performance continues despite the ongoing threats of live football telecasts in competition to their football, young footballers seeking employment in Adelaide necessitating mergers between adjoining towns and the aging of players in most club sides.

Even with these demands, our country zone currently boasts three players on AFL lists. Jared Rivers (Norwich Rising Star 2005) and Mark Jamar at Melbourne and Matt Davis at Sydney are all products of the hard work of our country league administrators. This hard work has also had quite a degree of longevity.

Ken Jeffrey (President SGL and PPFL), Bill Brown ( Secretary PPFL and also Regional Director Northern Zone), Ken McLean (President PAFL), Dick Ley (Treasurer PPFL) and Rod Gordon (Secretary/Treasurer SGL) have all been in one job or the other for 20 to 30 years.

Northern Areas Secretary Geoff Lange has been at his job for 15 years and Graham McKay has been President for 5 years and prior to that President of Peterborough for quite a while.

This demonstrates the commitment of these administrators who also have to commit to employment and properties. Add to this the performance of the local club administrators in the areas and there is a substantial contribution that enables young men to pursue their dreams of perhaps following the paths of those who are already experiencing them.

The members of the North Adelaide Football Club owe these gentlemen a great debt of gratitude for their continuing efforts in administrating football in their areas. We trust that the AFL will give due consideration to these efforts when their planning of the distribution of television rights is being conducted.

North had chosen not to mention that the Power's Elijah Ware is of course from the North zone, but they deemed him not good enough for SANFL!

With Souths having White & North to come back in and they only lost to Mallee's by 8 goals compared to Tasmans 26 goal belting you'd have to think the Eagles have more to look forward to. Tasmans appear to be on the brink at the minute, crucial couple of weeks coming up.....

Bit like Mark Bickley!

I lived in Crystal Brook for several years and we went from being in North to Central back to North and now Eagles. We definately used to see more of Centrals than North.

After consulting the premiership table in todays times:
A win to Tasmans over Souths would put them 2 games clear and almost cement themselves a finals spot. A Souths win would put them into 4th spot. I would go as far as to say the winner of this game will be 4th at the end of the minor round. I wouldn't have a clue who to tip.
Rangers have locked in a berth in the 2nd semi.
I would expect Rangers to beat Mallees by 8-10 goals (Mallees as usual are nowhere near their peak at this time of year). Hopefully this will put Mallees out of reach of a top 2 finish @ end minor round.
Unfortunately its starting to feel like groundhog year- 2004 all over again.

Your right as usual boags...there is a feeling of deja vu about this campaign. Mallees poor early and came home with a rush, us starting off OK and having our usual mid season slump, Tassies flying out of the blocks and faltering and Rangers being the constant of the competition....only difference between now and 2004 is that the tigers had 'won' a game in 2004.

computer games .... wasn't it?

What about your top 10 footballers in Port Lincoln.... criteria is they had to have played a game this year. And give reasons why.
1. Andrew North - Worth every cent, can dominate and be anything on his day. When on song is the best player in the comp but maybe not the most consistant.
2. Dom Romeo - Worth every cent and worth keeping at the club. Ultra hard to match up on and is a big game player. Always a threat with or without the ball.
3. Tom George - Outstanding when given space, can finish like no other in the comp.
4. Adam Crouch - Mr Consistant, hard at it player who reads the play extremely well.
5. Matt James - great leader for Tasmans and what would they be like without him. Terrific competitor who gives nothing away.
6. Matt Goodwin - The scarlet pimpernel and MM favourite. Best at Clearances in the comp and well supplied by his ruckman. Wouldnt we all like one or two of him.
7. Barry Johncock - Hasnt hit his staps yet but it is just around the corner. Is a barometer for Mallees and all their hopes pin on him to dominate up forward.
8. Waylon Johncock - Great skills and pace, questions over him in big games but when given space is lethal.
9. Paul White - Much the same as James and Goodwin.
10. Troy Hull - Getting on but still as crafty as ever, loves setting up his running team mates with his smart handballs, will play a big role come finals..
Appolagies to a lot of players, this is just my view and it would be interesting to see your TOP 10.

The PLFL website has recently been updated and now contains all current ladders, results and all the match write ups from the Times. Well done to whoever is looking after the site. Click on the link that Whitetips has on his posts.

Not really eski, just cold hard reality. You have well and truly spanked us on Saturday, with a list of ins only slightly inferior to ours. And thats not taking JD into account who could be the X Factor. With an ounce of luck you are 8 zip with a full list staring you in the face. While I hope that we can win a premiership, what I saw on Saturday makes me feel that we have our work cut out. 2 of our named side from Saturday are due to go to Adelaide with knee problems and we are relying on Cunnas & MB to recover from fairly serious injuries. To steal a quote from Bomber Thompson, that side we played was the best we have played by a mile and the rest will have their work cut out to catch up...ask darren allard what your chances are, sure he will talk them up a bit better than you guys.
Late News....one of the knees from saturday has decided to hang the boots up.....no prizes for guessing.

WCP- What was rangers winning streak over 2004/05? I remember you saying on here it would have been close to a club record.
Our streak was 11 (last 3 minor round games 2005, 3 finals, 5 to start 2006).
Nothing like a string of wins to build complacency. The quote 'Winning hides a multitude of sins' springs to mind.

Testing my memory Boags but I have a funny way of remembering things, here goes....

Our only loss in 2004 was to Waybacks, this was on the 8th of May and I remember this because South beat Sturt by 9 points the same day, I recall listening to it in Matt Roberts's caravan at Ravendale!! This year round 2 was on the 6th May so I'm guessing it was round 2 2004, we then didn't lose again, giving us 13 minor rounds wins and two finals. Our next loss was to the Peckers last year and I think it was round 3, giving us a streak of 17
