who is this sj at maccy and what has he done that makes people think he will help maccy is he bringing players and has anyone heard about the mass walkout at meadows

Simon Johnston is Ex-Birdwood coach 5ish years back. Had all the right ideas but didn't have the sheep in the padddock

Crumber, I'm not sure if you know SJ too well or have played under him but I can tell you that when he was at Birdwood he had a VERY good side to work with.

I think he will probably be a good thing for Maccy but I would be surprised if he brings a lot of players. I was also surprised that they signed him for 3 years, he has a very full-on personality which can wear thin quite quickly.

Good luck to the club - they had to try something and they have.

R.Hunter? T.Williamson? P.Sodomka? rumour i heard is they are all leaving Meadows for greener pastures..

would hardly call three players mass walk out. hunter only played maybe four games this year until he got injured, no secret about him maybe going back to the demons. thought sodomka & tarque where pretty happy there. wouldnt think to many clubs would be after their services all early to mid thirties & would attract points.

yeah i was just stirring the pot as usual choppy... thought Donks might head back down to the Marion Rams with Ex.

Hunsie is only 27 still a good 5 or 6 years in him, if he keeps drinking like he does then maybe 2 years

Must agree, the way he drinks he'll only end up running into fences again. Sodomka proved to be a very good addition, especially with the injuries at the club. They needed his hardness in the middle. No idea about the coaching situation, but would of thought they'd give Walden another shot. Got through to the younger blokes well, just needs a couple of experienced recruits and an injury free year.

personally, i never had a problem with the guy.. but it would of been wise for Maccy to have chatted with some of the Birdwood officials to maybe get some references... just a thought.

There was definitely no need for that, former Birdwood players opinions were enough.

Find it unbelievable that there are so many criticising this.
There's no question some people are going to get rubbed up the wrong way, including older players like yours truly, but you don't need to be a rocket scientist to work out that Macclesfield is not in a position to be able to pick and choose coaches, which is not to say that I'm not happy with the appointment because I am.
If we're ever to do anything, we need a coach like this.

Most likely that Toffoli will go although Tamarappa is a bit up in the air at the moment and would feel it would now only be the friendship between Mitch's wife and Wills girlfriend that would see him follow him.
Shanahan I'm not really sure but given what Mitch has said about him this year, I doubt he'll be following him whatever the case.

Who gives a toss about the last 10 years ODB.... were looking towards the future at Nairne hehe ..

all i was getting at is they would need to spend some big bucks, or have some ex league footballers move to the town to get the club off the bottom of the ladder. Good luck i hope you do well, just think its gonna take a hell of a lot more than a new coach.

Quick question why is it that when you talk of sj's achievments everyone leaves out the one year he coached Golden Grove in div 5 SAAFL?? Ill tell you why because he took the side from 6th place to rock bottom the next year, true champion. If I now here he didnt have the cattle why is it that they have now gone on to play in consecutive Grand Finals and are seemingly moving up through the grades?? The words credible coach hurt my ears. True sign of the bloke when he took the side to one or two wins and two draws in the season not to turn up at the clubs presentation that year. He is true to his word however, said he was an impact coach...deffinately made an impact. said he wasnt there to make friends....so true. Not saying the guy is the worst coach i have ever seen, not at all but have seen many times when there has been plenty of mentions of his achievments and this year is convieniently left out. Good luck Maccy i believe you will need it.

I have played under SJ in juniors some years back and know him and he is a full on sort of bloke. He is passionate about what he does, but this can rub people the wrong way. Obviously Maccy need someone diffrent. Good luck to Maccy and SJ.
