I suppose as its always going to be a sell out they can justify it but I went in 94 and 97.
I think the tickets to the 97 GF were about $70 and the tickets to the 94 GF were about $50.

That's a big hike since then!

Thats right the AFL grand final is not for the average footy fan. The hike is just another set of revenue raising by the AFL. And thats pretty much what they are about.

Rubbish guys, if you want one bad enough you'll find a way to get one.
Just takes a bit of nouse and if you have no nouse a large wallet.
If you have neither, well then you're in trouble.

You are right for the most part Punk. The AFL grand final could easily change it's name to "The Corporate Cup" - Once a year football supporters who only go 'cause they get the ticket for nothing and it's the place/event to be seen.
Wedgie is also right that if you wan't one bad enough, you'll get one - just don't expect to see much change from about $500 a ticket.
I got a couple of tickets at $300 dollars each for the 2001 Grand Final which was from the St Kilda allocation but that was a fortunate year in the sense that because Ansett went bust only about 2 weeks before the game and heaps of people that had promised to buy ticket packages through the clubs had booked travel to Melbourne through Ansett, so consequently a lot of clubs got caught with a heap of tickets and had to sell them all off at the last minute.

To be honest i have never really considered going to the AFL grand final - but this year I do.

I hear that tickets are expensive, and that allocation is limited.... but if an everyday guy like me (who is NOT a club member *slap*) wants to get a ticket, what is the best plan of attack?

Can someone help me with some ideas?

Right guys,if your the "average" football fan you dont have a chance of getting a ticket,but,if you're more than average and have a club membership (a must for the dedicated) or a season ticket,or better still both and your team makes the GF you are fairly well assured of a ticket.A bit of sacrifice (financially) makes it possible to go.

I also am aware the cost is way too high,by the time I factor in travel,food,beverages(x many) tickets,merchandise and throw in a 7 year old with me from go to whoa,2004 cost me in excess of $2000.Do it again tomorrow.(If I could).

No chance I'm afraid mate. They are hard enough to get if you are a member. The only realistic chance is to pay a scalper some extraordinary fee.

Become a member of your club asap LD,first and foremost,secondly,ring the club and check on what "Priority" you will be given ie:1,2,3. If you find there are 10,000 priority 1,5500 priority 2 and so on....you will soon work out where you are in the pecking order.If you are an Adelaide fan,you could expect they would be allocated 15000 or more seats for the GF,(seat allocation being based on which club has the most members).In 2004 Port were given 11,000 seats against Brisbanes 9000.

Wouldn't have wasted my time giving you all that advise if I had known you were a Demons fan.I thought you were serious about your team being a chance of making the GF.
