Demon68,maybe a north and south division and they play in there own final series and the winner of north G/F plays the winner of south G/F in a super bowl type G/F???

You have all got me confused I was replying to a post re SFL and now #-o

Hi Shoe,

I was referring to the Southern League only, however I think Zed is making reference to the amateur league considering a change in the future that would see north and central division (back to the old days of division north and south), as he said div 1 & 2 would remain as is as the penultimate divisions and div 3 to say 6 would consist of teams based on location, i.e. div 4 north and div 4 central.

The problem is that in the southern league, there are some really strong clubs that continue to dominate and there are big gaps back to other struggling clubs, and those clubs try to become strong but battle against the odds and little changes from year to year, so by having one div, there will always be blowouts, however two divs with relegation/promotion will endeavour to even out the comp.

Hust food for thought

I think the biggest problem is that everyone expects their club to always be at the top which of course is impossible.

Every club spends time at the lower end of the ladder its the matter of the clubs integrity and culture as to how long these periods are.

The hard times make the success even sweeter.

I know we all think we have got good sources but mine is adamant that PHOS are at least exploring the idea of going to the SFL. Regardless of whether they do or don't, the SAAFL need to have a look at themselves and wonder why clubs are looking for an alternative to Shadiac and co. I've said for a long time the SAAFL have forgotten what their original mandate was and that was to ensure the sustainability of it's member clubs. It's not to build up bank balances at the detriment of those that ultimately determine how strong the competition is.

Now the panic sets in at SAAFL H.Q.

Who stays up, goes up, what are the repercussions of this in Div 2? Any ideas please.

Easy enough to figure out. The team that finished 9th is given the option of staying in their current division. If they refuse, the team that finished 3rd in the division below gets to go up.

That was SMOSH I think in Div 2, so that's the story through all Divisions except Div 1? Interesting!

A good way to reward mediocrity, get another club to pull out of the comp.

yep.

It might just be me.. but I don't see to many benefits of staying in the higher division if you've been relegated:

If your team was crap in the higher div this year, unless you do some MAJOR recruiting (which, admittedly, is easier if you stay in the higher div) in theory you're still gonna be crap in the same div next year. Drop down, rebuild and then move forward..

Just my $0.02

Fair call too FC, but I don't think you'll see many (if any) of the five clubs asking to be put down a division. We're not all like Henley you know...

it can be a fine line between being relegated and staying up..not all relegated clubs are necessarily basket cases and some only need a few players to be back more competitive..its all relative and each club has to look at what benefits them the most..some may want to stay up and some may not

FC: how would you fix the teams in all the grades when a club leaves? in any scenario a club will be rewarded perhaps incorrectly but thats life..its not every year a team in div 1 or 2 pulls out of the competition all together..

would also have to work in the other scenerio, why would a team that came third want to be promoted to a higher grade without the chance to play in their own division GF?
