Norwood v West Rd 14 2006

From the Advertiser:

West has what it takes to stun Legs

FORGET the record books . . . Norwood will face a real battle against West Adelaide in the early match of the double-header at Adelaide Oval tomorrow.

The bottom-placed Bloods have lost the past two against Norwood but they found a pulse last week against Central District.

Norwood (seventh), however, fell into a coma in the second half against the Magpies and it is making a habit of half-hearted affairs lately. West has crafty Luke Donaldson and Brad Fisher back from injury but Peter Walsh has been claimed by the Power. Daniel Proud, eligible for under-19s, is on the extended bench and Matt Cragg-Sapsford was recalled but West's fortunes are more about effort than personnel.

Statistically, Norwood narrowly heads West in forward potency and defensive efficiency but the margin is so narrow it won't take much to turn around.

West has melded a low-fuss, team-orientated style with real heart and it has the skill level to test Norwood's underdeveloped running game.

Under-rated ruckman Tim Nicholas, Luke Nitschke and Stephen Bailey come in but out goes Brett Zorzi (knee), while Brad Vassal was dropped.

Norwood still uses too many handballs (107 last week to 189 kicks) or short passes rather than driving it deep. West has the hammer to make that a weakness.

Norwood is one game outside the five and it can't afford to drop this. But West coach Wayne Weidemann says last week's gutsy effort must be the base output and with a bit of flair it can be dangerous.

"They (players) have got to believe they can do it week-in, week-out," he said. "We strongly believe what we're doing is the right thing (and) I've never lost faith in these blokes."

They say faith moves mountains when it is in the right place.

Westies are due for another win and this week i feel it will be the Bloods turn. It will be a messy game but the team that plays fluid football which is down the guts of the ground will win. Keep your kicking at the targets and hit them don't miss them it is how you win football. Westies must not fall into the trap of wasting the football and be too handball happy like they have been known to be. Wiggo must mark the ball and Kick goals.
till next time

The quarter time scores were

NW.............................5-6
WA.............................0-2
ben haynes.................2-1

norwood led by 21 points

One incident reflected the WA season to date.
Ben Haynes was in considerable pain fom a leg
injury in the third quarter and attended by 2 of
the West runners, suddenly the ball came down
towards Haynes who got up and marked the ball.
He collapsed and a team mate had to kick the
ball for him as the three quarter time siren sounded.
HE IS DOING IT ALL BY HIMSELF WESTIES !!!!!!!!!!!!

The guy is a SANFL superstar and dare i say it in
a one man team at the moment.

Very young team the bloods lets hope for a resurgance
for the rest of the year.

Well done to Daniel Proud who made his debut on the weekend for the Bloods.
From a very talented Riverland sporting family.
