South Fans > Glenelg Fans

Postby Wedgie » Sat Jul 08, 2006 10:41 pm

Last week at Prospect there was about 50 Bays fans.
Today at Prospect there would have been about 500 South fans.
Last week when Glenelg scored a goal you could hear a pin drop.
Today when South scored a goal there was quite a noticable roar from the crowd.

With both sides being similarly matched on the table I expect to never ever see/hear Bays fans putting down Panthers supporters EVER again.

In defence of the Horse's Hoof's, they did have a big turnout when we played them earlier in the year on a Sunday...

Middle of winter both weeks and rain today at Prossie early today also.
If you're clutching at the "weather" card to outdo South supporters you know you're struggling.

At Noarlunga earlier this year there was about 500 South supporters, today there was also 500 South supporters.
At Glenelg earlier this year there was about 3000 Glenelg supporters, last week there was 50 Glenelg supporters.
You do the maths.

As I said I don't expect Glenelg fans EVER to put down South fans after today. They own you by a big way.

South Fans > Glenelg Fans

Well done Panthers.

Exactly my point.
I'm not saying South have more supporters but just that they win when it comes to the "bandwagon" stakes and by a mile too.

Glenelg fans > South fan

CLUB BY CLUB (Average across all 20 Minor Rd Games)

Glenelg
2003 – 2479 (6)
2004 – 2460 (7)
2005 – 2483 (7)

South

2004 – 1941 (9)
2005 – 1990 (9)

GROUND BY GROUND (Avg per game at the ground)

2005 – 2563

Noarlunga
2003 – 1505
2004 – 1656
2005 – 1530

Membership totals.....

2004 2,380 1,276 2,060 1,977 2,474 1,090 ????? 1,000 1,802
2005 2,413 1,584 2,266 2,010 2,931 ????? ????? 1,116 2,004

Some objective data vs the Wedge mans subjective opinions.......

IMO you are not a true supporter of your club unless you are a member so based on my criteria for being a supporter I will galdly say we have more supporters than South, and will bag them if I feel the inclination......

FWIW I regard our support and membership totals as pretty poor but plain to see we are not the worst......

Funny I was going to make a post on the Norf v Souf Pictures thread along the lines of not too much blue amongst the red.....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I agree with most of your points Tassie and they don't disagree with my point.

Even if Club A has 10 members and Club B has 1000000 members if Club A has those 10 members at both home and away games but Club B gets all 1000000 to a home game but only 1 to an away game it says a lot to me hence my point.

Members mean $$$ but when it comes to the crunch South have more $$ than Glenelg and they have more supporters who attend both home and away.
It might be just me but I prefer loyalty to bandwagonners.

IMHO South Fans > Glenelg Fans
(Thanks christ for the Snouts as if it wasn't for them Glenelg would have no support away from home)

Great call Wedgie,
Yes it was fantastic today to see so many Southies out there at Prospect.

Yes we only have 1000 members but hey ...at least we turn up unlike the Bays supporters.

A couple other facts that Wedgie conveniently chose to ignore in his subjective posts...

 The weather today was significantly better than last week
 Glenelg had lost their past two games, South were coming off two huge wins at home, so you need to consider that bandwagon factor

But since you prefer to talk subjectively, I reckon there were a LOT more than 50 Glenelg supporters there last week - I could almost name 50 Glenelg supporters who were there myself (and I don't really know that many...)

As I said Ecky, if you're relying on weather (despite it raining last week and this so its a non issue in my book) to justify supporter turn out compared to South supporters you've actually backed up my point.

I'll give you 10 minutes to name those "almost 50" supporters otherwise I think we can safely disregard that point, times ticking........

A Quote from Wedgie ealier in the year.......

Very poor, I don't know what the official figure was but I would have guessed about 1600-1700 depending on how many were in the pokies room.
Bugerall South fans there, 75% Glenelg fans and IMHO that was the difference in the end.

I'm good mates with a South fan and he chose not to come so he could get prepared for the Showdown tonight, very sad, but probably an indication on where South's supporters are at as a whole and why they'll continue to lose close games like this at home, their players must wonder why they bother at times.
(Apologies to the few South fans that were there)

Mind you having said that, there was probably about 2000 less Bays fans than attended Glenelg Oval on Sunday too.

Bottom line is this Sunday will determine if the South Bandwagon grows, or ours starts up again.........

Be interesting to see if their are as many South fans at Prospect again in rd 21 if we won this week and supplant South in the 5.....

I must admit I didn't reveal the full story in that quote Tassie, the South fan I know who went to the Showdown actually had triplets about 12 months earlier so I forgave him for not attending a game or two!

As a south supporter it was great to see such a good turnout today despite the result. I beleive when the panthers are going well you will find that they will have better attendances at away games rather than home games. This is because the real die hard supporters live "down on the flat" in adelaide. South really has not established an identity down south -yet.

I wanted to quote you in its entirety I was more interested in your 75% Bays fans, 25 % South fans line......Even coming off a win (sturt) where as we had a loss (North) the week before we still outnumbered them in your opinion.
