I'm surprised this topic didn't pop up earlier.

Very disappointing that Turnbull won the Liberal leadership. I was looking forward to another couple of years of incompetence from the opposition.

At the time he called the spill I thought it was a good move by Nelson because it would look a tad hasty for a leadership change. If he left it any longer he had no hope. Even the traditional liberal savers such as evil refugee invasion or a terrorist attack wouldn't have worked now that they are in opposition.

Does Brendan now join Psyber's mate as the only libs not to have taken the party to an election? What an exclusive club!

I'm glad it happened. Let's hope the Liberals get their act together. An incompetent opposition does nothing for the state of Australian Democracy (see Howard years).

Nelson really rooted up the apology to the indigenous. He never recovered from there.

I voted "6-12 months" in the Poll.

I met Brendan Nelson a few times back when he was AMA President. I thought he was pretty unexciting then too.
He got the job the same way Alexander D did - there was a stand off and a neutral compromise candidate was put up.
Peter Costello deciding not to stand opened the door for Malcolm Turnbull who was the other obvious option.

It will be interesting to see how it goes..

Let's see.
If I remember correctly, his father was a sole parent and not wealthy, and he's a self-made millionaire - not born to it.
A lot of people may be able to relate to that, and recognise it as a measure of ability.
There is also some suggestion Rudd is more wealthy than Turnbull, though his wife made much of it, not him.
