'altercation at the trots'

Postby bayman » Mon Oct 20, 2008 9:47 pm

i was just on the phone to ....................... & was told that a top driver (the puppet) was 'bashed', 'whipped' & 'abused' by another driver (murphy but not d.murphy) (yep i've never heard of him) the caller said he is an absolute twit who has no idea & thinks he is a lot better than he is, & this was last night at warragul, i could give a bit more info but police are involved as well as the stewards who had murphy removed from the track so i'll leave it at that

after hearing this & while it is just 1 peanut (apologies to all other peanuts out there) it goes to show that it isn't just s.a. that has a few 'fiery characters' in the game

POLICE and Harness Racing Victoria are investigating allegations champion driver Chris Alford was assaulted in two separate incidents by a rival driver at last night's Warragul meeting.

Witnesses allege young driver Nathan Murphy attacked Alford with his driving whip as the horses left the track after the opening race.

Murphy allegedly charged at Alford in the horse stalls after the race, wrestled him to the ground and assaulted him.

Murphy, 18, is no stranger to HRV stewards.

Last November he was called to front them to explain his poor driving record.

His licence was downgraded from a B to C level and the stewards noted his 39 drives to that point had involved him fined, suspended or cautioned on 23 occasions.

HRV chief executive John Anderson confirmed stewards had opened a three-part inquiry into the alleged Warragul incidents.

"The first inquiry is into incidents during the race in which Alford and Murphy both competed," Anderson said.

"The stewards are also inquiring into what happened on the track shortly after the race and also what happened about 10 to 15 minutes later in the stabling area."

Anderson confirmed police were called to the track.

"The police took statements from Alford, Murphy and a security guard who was working at the track," he said.

A spokesman for Warragul police said no charges had been laid, but an inquiry was still pending.

Murphy drove $22.50 outsider Blue Invasion and Alford was on the $4.50 favourite Hiona Mountain.

Hiona Mountain challenged Blue Invasion strongly for the lead in the early stages before Blue Invasion galloped briefly and Alford's drive took the lead.

Shortly after, Murphy moved Blue Invasion up alongside Alford and applied pressure between the 1400m and 1100m before Blue Invasion galloped again.

Hiona Mountain finished second, beaten by a half-head by $5.20 chance Lelis Boy. Blue Invasion was last, almost 170m from the winner.

Witnesses said Murphy could be heard yelling obscenities at Alford in the early and middle stages of the race.

Stewards later ordered Murphy to leave the track.

thanks centreman, well with that record i'd be giving him 5 years (it seems to me he doesn't learn & is volatile) & if he comes back & reoffends then he would not have learned a lesson & then i'd ban him for life

And I thought you were going to say MAL went mad and threw his book/form guide at a wall or something.

Monday Charged Energy won his second race in 3 days
and then at Menangle today
Cosmic Babe won race 2, after running 2nd @ Bankstown yesterday...

we're having an increase in horses backing up within 24 or 48 hours and winning
Port Power has 16 years history at Football Park...

The Port Magpies have 40 years history and the two shall never be confused or combined

Mal if 10 to 20 horses back up over a weekend they all can't win!!!!!!! only been 7 races on mondays. Of course more aren't gunna win, cos if 15 back up into 7 or 8 races its not possible. Unless we have 3 way dead heats in all races!!!!!!!!!!!

Some horses can back up no worries. Their all different. Are you taking into account barriers, drives, whether races are harder or easier horses back up in???

Charged energy had good consistant form in melb. It could run on Monday and win Go to the trials and win .Come out on saturday nite and keep doing that for a couple of weeks .Melb. horses are better than ours .Unless the Golden Grove Boys buy one for $70 or $80 Thousand to take them on the vics will keep taking our prize money.
