Must be his 4th/5th big start (in both forms)
without a ton. One reason we can't win games

Was an opener but the main reason he lost his spot was due to Matthew Elliott playing
Came back the last 3 games last season

2007/2208
TA 120+ 12
QL 04 + 03
NS 11 + 71

District Cricket final WDV V WT
Scored a 100+ in the final for WDV

2008/2009
VI 18 +62
NS 41 +63

Starting to show his potential
His mother was not impressed when Matthew Elliott was recruited and Danny lost his spot in a few games

O/D form is good as well
Deserves his spot

He does deserve his spot no doubt but he really needs to start converting his starts more often for not only himself but more imprtantly the team.

Mal, Borgas currently 118* looking good in the second XI. Cosgrove has started to tee off as well. He's raced to 71* off just 82 balls. The 2 blokes we spoke about last night :D

Good to see Cossie scoring quickly as well.

Also, was there a wicket in the main game? I swear it said 4/ on the main page but when I clicked on it, the score is 3/245.

Kahn is 52*, quick let's drop him.

Whilst it is pleasing to see Cosgrove ton up, it is frustrating to see him bat for 40 mins over a session and then get out. On arguably the best batting deck in teh country (AO #2) agaisnt teh ACT surely 100 for him is par.

Sorry if I'm harsh but Cosgrove is so frustrating to watch given his obvious talent.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I do agree with you but the Redbacks are not in a position to leave out a player with his talents. If we were playing well and winning sure but the fact is no matter how frustrating he is he is still more likely to actually score runs than anyone else (Khan aside). We must pick our best XI and IMHO there is absolutely no doubt Cossie is in that XI.

Exactly what i was thinking.

Why? The fat bastard barely got a run against the NSW 2nd XI two weeks ago (failed in the first dig and made 40 odd in the second when fatigued obviously set in and he got again - as per last year)

He shouldn't be picked until he shows he can bat for long innings (i.e. is fit)

made 57 off 79 in the 1st innings just before declaration was called (hit a 6 the previous ball)
yes he failed in the 2nd innings lbw for 1 (team bowled out for 168)
only hit 104 off 119 today. you call it frustrating, i'd call it entertaining

i'd also say its frustrating only cos we all know his capabilities and that he could be our number one batter, hopefully when he gets his chance he cements it this time.

Thanks BL fpr the scores I spent 15 mins today trying to find them on cricket, com.au

Yes he's good enough to play for SA, crikey I think he should be over in India now with his talent. With him I prepared to make him wait to learn a la Lehmann that to be a test batsman you have to learn to bat all day. 120 ball innings don't cut it at teh elite level.

As I posted on here last year his training habits and lack of abailty to bat long periods (tire bowlers out then cash in) is costing him upwards of $1/2 a Million a year. FFS if I was his manager I'd be chopping up his license and making him ride everywhere in Adelaide.

Cullen Bailey isn't a first class cricketer and Dan Cullen isn't much better. I can understand D.C. playing in the one day side to a degree but he shouldn't be in the Shield team. It's our woeful-ness that has allowed D.C. to keep a spot in the side and Bailey to ever play first class cricket. If either thinks they would get a regular game playing anywhere else, see ya later.

If both players shouldn't be in the SS team, then who would be your spinner in the team?

Interesting watching Inside Cricket tonight that Justin Langer still Rated Dan Cullen Very Highly as a Future Aussie Test Spinner despite struggling to take wickets recently. I think what all the critics of Cullen & Bailey have to remember that it is a very tough Gig bowling spinners in arguably the strongest 1st class domestic comp in the world. The 2 saca boys dont have the advantage of bowling on the spin friendly SCG and you've got to remember that they have Rarely had decent scores to bowl to over the last few seasons. I havent got the stats to prove it BUT i dont recall Warne or TBA May being standout bowlers at shield level and they were stars in the Test arena. Anyone remember what was Peter 'WHO' Taylors 1st class figures were at the time of his International call up? I dont think they were too flattering but ended up doing ok (maybe bcos at times somes of the international teams are weaker than our State sides barring SA of course).

I agree with you here Tassie. The guy is one of the most naturally talented batsmen i have seen. He could become an absolute star if he put in the work. Lets hope he does because he is a special talent that could end up wasted. C'mon Cossie, do the work and reap the rewards.

They're fair points but I too watched Inside Cricket and it's pretty obvious Langer has his favourites. He came off a tad unhinged in his OTT defence of his mate Hayden. Facts are Cullen hasn't looked close to getting a gig in Test cricket and rightfully so.*

*Just to clarify since the Bangladesh experiment.

and to think dan cullen has played test cricket....what a joke i think!
Adelaide oval is not a spin friendly SCG?? well i think its the closest to it, in the state and he gets some pretty good wickets to bowl on, 5 home games at adelaide oval and one game at SCG, he should have better statistics then he has atm if he is to play test cricket in the near future..
i would replace plant with either cosgrove, christian or andy delmont! delmont is a star of the future i believe and if we can get him in to bat along side khan i think it can only have a positive effect and see him develop into a better player..He will be our number one batsman in a couple of years IMO
but a two draws from two home games, we probably take that with positives from both games, altho 2 home games should be 2 wins.
