R15 Port vs Eagles at Alberton

Postby Aerie » Fri Jul 14, 2006 10:05 am

Eagles
F: Cooper, Passador, Westbrook
HF: Inkster, Grocke, Rugolo
C: Treeby, Cicolella, Jarrad
HB: P Fiacchi, McKenzie, Shattock
B: Bock, Pedler, Powell
R: Lindsay, Colville, Skipworth
I (from): Jacobs, Potter, Symmons, Fairclough

Ins: Potter, Bock, Fairclough, Skipworth
Outs: Knights (Knee), Hall (Concussion), R Fiacchi (Hamstring)

Port
F: Waterhouse, M Clayton, Elstone
HF: Dolling, AhChee, Harry
C: Biacsi, DePasquale, Poulton
HB: Illet, Baird, Butcher
B: King, Lokan, Morrison
R: Meiklejohn, Ebert, J Clayton
I (from): Summerton, Slattery, Davis, Carr

Ins: Ebert

Another big game for both sides with a chance to consolidate a top 3 spot and keep in touch with North. Losing 3 tall backs in Hall, Fiacchi and the unavailability of Frewen is eased a little by having Bock back in the side and Port's smallish forward line. It looks like it will be wet, so would expect McKenzie to be shifted into the middle at some stage as he is the best wet weather player the Eagles have. Should see Bock on AhChee. Not sure who will take Waterhouse. He is always dangerous and might see someone like Shattock play on him. Another important match up will be Baird on Grocke with Grocke just needing to continue his impressive form and make contest after contest. Rugolo, Inkster and Westbrook will be dangerous in the forward line on a wet day. The most important position for the Eagles will probably be whoever tags Jeremy Clayton. I'd like to see Colville stick on him all day, even if Clayton goes deep to our back line to pick up kicks early like he did at Thebby earlier in the year. Should be a great game.

The Mighty Maggies by 27 points

Oh, and I would expect that Ebert is not happy about being dropped, so I expect him to have a great game for the Magpies, get himself back in the Power team.

I would think Colvile will shut him down nicely :D .If not Cooper would show him up front running Power players dont impress the rest of the SANFL PAP.

He might, considering the last time I saw Ebo in a Maggies jumper, he wasn't too impressive.

Just as a side note having a few players that play for and comeback from the crows and 1 that does the same at the power (well every now and again  ) ,have noticed they play CRAP first game back if they have played for a few afl games .

Gotta agree with that. Like I said, when Brett Ebert played against North Adelaide at Prospect, it was his first game back in the SANFL, and while looked pretty good in the first half, he completely disappeared in the second half. Hopefully that is not the case tomorrow.

Everyone knows that wiggles supporters don't have women! Seriously though, after what I saw last week I am fairly sure that Port at the moment aren't up to the same standard as the Eagles or Central. They tend to rely on the same players every week & you can't do that against quality opposition. The weather could be a leveller but if it turns out dry, I feel that WWT will win quite comfortably, unless the whole Port side clicks, which has not happened recently. WWT have a better ruckman, a better full forward, Cicolella, Mackenzie, Inkster etc etc, Port have? The Eagles by about 7 or 8 goals.

So you think beating Sturt by 75 points and having 14 different goal kickers doesn't qualify as the whole Port team clicking? What about our 10 goal win over Norwood? Doesn't count either I guess. The entire must be switched on (like it has the last 2 weeks) otherwise even bottom sides like West Adelaide can beat you. Trust me, I know. The Port team wasn't switched on against West, and they paid the price by getting belted by a team that hadn't won a game all season.

How spot on you are Centurion. It turned out to be a dry day at the footy and the Eags won by 7 goals. full marks for that. After watching Port yesterday I am certainly not worried about them as much as others when we're talking premiership chances. Top 3 of the table at the moment North, Eagles and Centrals certainly look the teams to beat in the race for the flag. Anyone else is just merely making up the numbers. If i had a stab in the dark I would guess it just might be our year, we're sitting 2nd only on % and have won 8 games straight, we'd have to be the form team of the comp at the moment. Just hope we don't play Centrals in the GF again.
