Harness Heroes of the Future....

Postby Dan Patch » Sun Jul 16, 2006 3:26 pm

This weekend saw some terrific racing. Four future champions showed their stuff.
1...2-Y-O....Lombo Pocket Watch made it 14 wins from 15 starts, in a cool 1.57.3 mile rate. The best two year old since the mighty Vin Knight driven Garry's Advice. And what about his stablemate, Lombo Mandingo. 7-wins from 13 starts, and his six losses have all been behind Pocket Watch !!
2...3-Y-O Trotter...Acacia Ridge, made it 11 wins from 19 starts, by winning his seventh straight race this season. Perhaps the best trotter since the great Maori's Idol.
3...3-Y-O...Tip Your Hat. I thought he might have problems staying. Went back to last as expected, circled the field at the 600M mark, and held on from the fast finishing Atomic Arc (with my hard held on e/w). this was his 22 win from 29 starts, earning a cool $263,000 in those 29 starts. Maybe the best 3YO since Courage Under Fire.
4...And last, but not least, the best of all, Blacks a Fake. First Up, since the Interdom. he sat back, circled the field, death seated, and then kicked their brain in, in a brilliant 1.55.1 mile rate, to bring his record to 22 wins from 28 starts, earning 1.14 million dollars in the process. This horse is Popular Alm & Gammalite, all in one package.

For a sport struggling to make headlines, and stay alive, here are four out and out champions, who should be on the front page of any sporting paper in the world, let alone Australia. Somehow, we have lost the passion and excitement of witnessing such great feats. I know it is all about making money on the punt, and you will not get rich backing this quartet, because they will always be very short, so I guess we will all try to find a few more of those elusive good priced winners in the future.

More next weekend. Enjoy the journey....
