Is that Chris Packham ex TTG to Maccy? Those Gully recruits to Maccy would be shorter than Brad Lees, and would run a hellava lot slower!

Have Kangarilla done the right thing reappointing Stringer? He has been there 3 years, when most country club coaches out do their use by date.

i think you'll find it is gavin patman not chris packham heading to maccy... yes those guys are short but very quick and the small hills grounds they should go alright!
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

I remember only 2 years ago, when the saviour, came to dig them out of their hole. lasted one year and then they were back in the same spot they have been for years. Yes they will improved..........BUT, so will every other top 5 team. Torrens Valley picking up big names, Kersbrook still to be strong as last year, Kangy going to be a strong outfit have money to chuck around now, Echunga picking up some decent Mt Lofty players and more to come we hear, Nairne will be around the mark again (even with the loss of Luke Murphy) and don't forget meadows who this year had a horrible year of Injuries. So talk them up as much as you want they will be a bottom 4 side. Maybe if and that is a BIG if, they can keep a side together for more than 3 years then they will be a top 5 side. Its only november.........talk is cheap.

Do agree with you but don't think there is too many Maccy people on here talking it up unless there's a poster who's identity I don't know.

This is not good for Hills Div 2, who have lost this century Milang, Blackwood 2s, Birdwood (albeit Div 1 Hills) and now Callington. Reducing to what could have been a 12 team comp to next years 8 and with plenty of pressure on Gumeracha to survive. While Hills County (Hills Div 2) standard is at it's strongest (average teams probably comparable with Amateur Div 4), the competition is clearly not healthy. Unfortunately there is no easy solution.

of course Div 2 has its issues..with the failure of the salary cap and now the points system seeming to be ineffective..esp. while the league fails to alter the criteria..there will be problems.

It takes a lot of work by too few at many clubs to raise the cash to be effective. While we have people like GH injecting megga bucks into teams ..of course the others will eventualy say..its too hard..and go down the way cally have.

I know there is no simple answer..

Does soccer have these issues??

Is there money floating around the local soccer clubs..

do they have grading of teams to make it more even??

No, this is not good. I agree there is no easy solution but the first step in solving the problem is for the HFL to be more flexible and come up with some strageties to help struggling clubs survive. Their constitution is old, tired and outdated, as are some of the powers there. They like some clubs more than others and are inconsistent in their responses. Some of the powers there (not all), have personal prejudices and it shows. I am told some are impossible to deal with or reason with. Which club will be next? Gums? Maccy? I am certain that if it were Mt. Barker in trouble all hands would be on deck to help them. Depends how big a club is I guess, and who is best at negotiating the mine field we call the HFL

Will the Hills ever go to promotion-relegation? Even if it's just the premier and wooden spooner swapping comps? That would eradicate the one club (Torrens Valley for example) dominating Div 2 for years with the amount of coin that is aparantly there.

Just an outsider looking in.

My mail is, the new maccy coach has picked up some very, very handy players that will definitely help maccy be competitive/get rid of the spoon and win more than the 1 credited game they picked up in 08 !!!!!

Have you got some names for us Johno???

TTG have lost Roughton, Quinn and Patman to Maccy. All 3 are ex Gepps Cross boys, been at TTG for a few years. Probably will help in some way, no size in any of them but a bit of goal sense and not much common sense.

Wouldnt have thought that was a fair call... i know all three of these lads well. Roughton, small wingman with alot of pace and can kick goals (reciever), Patman about 5 10 solid build, smart forward, aggressive, Quinn, about 6 ft or maybe slightly bigger, very fit, huge leap, a little inconsistent maybe. All of these players have played decent div 1 footy. You couldn't even compare div 1 footy to Hills country...dont kid yourselves people it would be div 4 low div 3 at BEST. Play on.

I hate to say his but in 1993(I think) when Callington were admitted to the HFL,I made the statement to the directors that the competition was being compromised because clubs like TV, Echunga etc were happy to stay in Div 2 without any Promotion/relegation system in place and the Div 2 comp would suffer and CUE would not survive long term.. At that time, TV and some other clubs were forfeiting B grade games because there were not enough players to fill teams and yet the HFL gave CUE an armchair ride into the comp by supplying them with jumpers, shorts, socks, footies and other equipment whilst ignoring the problems faced by other clubs at the time.
I guess CUE were lucky to have survived 15 years, but until the Directors of the HFL take off their blinkers, or get people on the board with no previous affiliation to clubs therein, the status quo will remain and GH will go on buying premierships without a challenge from the salary cap officer who was put there to stop him doing just what he has done for years.
Now that is just plain dumb, don't you think?

They might have been bit players at TTG, but put them in the Middle against Brett James, Paul James, Brad Pearce and Brad Lees and I know which blokes I'd take.

I Believe all may noy be lost with CUE.
I'm led to believe that they will survive by fielding a 'C' grade team along with their colts sides IF they cant get the players for 'A' & 'B' teams.
Also been told that ALL Paid players from last season except 2 have agreed to play for $00000000 (ZERO) next season to help the club survive.
