Yep...I managed to stop about 5 years ago now. I do still get the occasional craving but I think I was lucky as none of my mates smoke and I live alone so not too many temptations to start again. I've almost stopped stalking smokers in town for a bit of passive smoke now too

Thankfully I haven't turned into one of those angry exsmokers who has a go at all smokers...I reckon they're just scared of starting again themselves.

My eldest son used to be like that. The principal once included him in a speech about 'remembering things' ... when he was in year 2 or 3 because he could name just about every player in the AFL.... Just had the love for football.

So does he have the 2 year old 'terror tantrums' yet... that start at 18 months !!!

My grandmother went to a hypnotist to give up smoking.
And it worked... she never smoked once leaving his office.
Amazing stuff since she smoked all the time before that.

How did you manage to give up??

And good girl ...btw :D

I never started, my parents were both passive smokers and I hated it as a kid. So put me off for life O:)

Sorry... but I am so laughing right now

Only because I've been through it all that I can laugh at someone else going through it !!
I know, nasty pasty I am :D

I remember one time when I had a 2 year old and a new born baby... I was at the supermarket... new born screaming his lungs out... 2 year old lying on the floor kicking and screaming... Me... nearly lying on the floor kicking and screaming as well !!

Not nice !!

But lap it up while you can, because in no time he'll be 18 :(

That saying of they grow up fast really is true :(

I tried a couple of times over the years and only lasted a few weeks. Back then everyone at work smoked and most of the family smoked so was probably doomed from the start.

Then I was just sitting watching tv one evening and light a ciggie and suddenly thought...I'm really not enjoying this...and the next day I went to the pharmacy and bought some of that Nicorette gum. I followed the instruction which was to use it for 6 months and then wean yourself of it over a few months and it worked a treat. I guess I was just ready to give up without a struggle...most of it is psychological I reckon. Another thing that really, really helped is living on a low independant income (my own choice) means I can't afford to start again :D

Well my stepmother had a collapsed lung and she still smokes

So well done JAS.

I think less people do smoke these days. My mum has been smoking since she was 14, I'd hate to see her lungs, but when she was that age everyone around her was smoking too, so yeah.

I think it was hereditary for me...the whole family smoked...grandpa cigars, dad a pipe everyone else ciggies. I didn't start til I was about 17 and it was probably because all my mates did too and I'm afraid I took to it like a duck to water...the first ciggie never made me feel ill or anything.

Must admit I cringe at the thought of how much money I've blown (pardon the pun) over those years. But then again I'd no doubt have wasted it on something else

The only time I get a bit cross is when I hear of people who have an elderly relative who's not long left and they try to make them give up what is possibly the only pleasure they have left...as if it's going to make any differnce now.

My mate did the same and it worked instantly for him.

I've often thought about it, but Im too frightened the Doc might play a prank on me and anytime
someone claps I'll start clucking like a chicken or something

Good point...

Which bring's two questions to mind:

1) You have to wonder though... if it's worked for my grandmother and it worked for your mate... why don't more people look to this to give up smoking etc.... maybe the 'quit' people should start a campaign

2) Who's been to a hypnotist and what pranks have they seen played ?? :D
