From where is your source for this information Jackal ???

I know the 'inner sanctum' are very tight lipped atm as they have been criticised in the past for leaks well before acceptances. I know the coach would be very dissappointed if someone had 'leaked' some of this information. It was one of the first things he addressed in his time at westies was the confidence to speak freely with people without the content becoming public.

So heres hoping it was not from someone within the club but from somewhere else. Who does the jackal even support?

Big Phil and WYC, yes I am very much an Eagles member and supporter and have followed them through thin and thinner. Whilst I do not make many entries to the forums they are usually accurate and come from good sources...players from within various clubs. I expect that Birss and Ferguson will be subject to the draft hence Westies keeping the lid on things. This is good stuff from Westies to have these two lined up.The only rebuff I have had from my entries on this forum was from one of the South members who thought my comments on Jack Cahill being obsolete when he was appointed were way off the mark. Wow ! how wrong I was.

Thanks Jackal i wasn't trying to say that you were wrong or discredit what you have to say but i was interested as to where your info was coming from because i know certain parts of the club are not talking about recruits. Players however, seem to be a little more open in talks of who has signed where and so on. Maybe when you speak to these guys you can pass on the info to me more often as you obviously get it before the club is willing to give it out :) .

That's right, I think we met at Adelaide Oval on Preliminary Final weekend, you were there watching the Eags get into the GF after upsetting the more fancied Tigers.

I wasn't questioning your sources in any demeaning way, I was just curious as to from where you heard about the signings. I vaguely remember you being an Eagles fan and thought that any news on Bloods recruits would have come from redandblack, Thiele or someone closer from the inner sanctum down at Broadspectrum Oval.

Nathan Carroll was today officially "delisted" by the Melbourne Football Club.

Haivng kept him on their list after the October 31 cut off date for final list lodgement, the Dees have agreed to pay his salary (which will be included in their 2009 total player payments or TTP) for next year but have told him his services are not required.

I know he was keen to train with St. Kilda in a hope to resurrect his AFL career but the WA native, recruited from Claremont, would certainly be a very handy full back in any SANFL team and they wouldn't have to worry about the Salary Cap aspect because of the income he will receive from his former AFL club.

Has a bit of a "bad boy" stigma attached which might put off other AFL clubs. Would be a good in the SANFL I reckon.

I'd have Nathan Carroll at Norwood in the blink of an eye! Got that bit of mongrel in him we need so badly!

He might still be a fair chance to go in the draft Big Phil...

No doubt mate, like I said he is hoping to train with St. Kilda in hope of rejuventing his career. He has quit the drink all together and is working out on a daily basis with a well respected boxing trainer in Melbourne. Would be a very strong chance to get another AFL lifeline I would think.

If you couldn't have Carroll how about Andrew Lee (Essendon) & Kris Massie for 2009

Any leaks from Westies would not come from Thiele or Red and black. They are true club men and don't have loose lips.

I reckon we've got Lee already but my mail is Massie will be heading home to Vic if not drafted by anyone! :(

Not surprised at all. I have little doubt Massie would've made Norwood a first priority if he stayed in Adelaide; but when you've only moved over to further your AFL career, and your AFL career isn't there anymore, can't blame him for moving back.

I would be beyond flabbergasted if Carroll were re-drafted by anyone. AFL clubs aren't convents, and SANFL clubs even less so, but I would want Norwood to do the most stringent vetting imaginable on Carroll before signing him. Pfeiffer and Cockshell are current/recent NFC players who have got in trouble because they like a cool drink on a warm day-- and they're only the ones well-publicised in the media-- and your senior players set the tone for the rest of the squad. And when I say stringent vetting, I don't mean a fireside chat saying, 'try to stay off the booze, old boy'. I agree that otherwise picking him up would be sorely tempting, because on-field, he's a perfect fit for what we need.

Absolutely, and if you want to be a successful club you want players who are prepared to make being fit to play, and consistently playing well, their priority, and key senior players who are prepared to set the example. Players who may lead others away from that goal are not desirable recruits, regardless of their talent and potential.

Fairy Nuff

My bad...

They are kind of similar and you are both Eagles fans, so it easy to see where the mistake was made

At least that's what I'm telling myself anyway :D

Not too many warm days in winter  and i think they have enjoyed a couple to many during the season.
