A roasting on RPH tonight

Postby RM » Thu Jul 20, 2006 9:17 pm

Who was the person that Smithy gave a roasting to regarding a post about the Monday morning show being full of 80's music?

Well they said the person in question took their post off.

Hmm who was it?

Was it from this SANFL site????

Dunno, maybe it was me?
I've canned them for playing more music than having SANFL content but I didn't take the post off (well I don't think I did?)
I'll try and find it.

Found it, here's my post, certainly didn't take it off as its still there:

http://safootycentral.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3005&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=80s

If Smithy was whinging I doubt it was from this site as there's been 95% positive posts re RPH on here with the 5% negative being solely about Paul Blandis (and my post re the music).

Nup.

Surely couldn't be me unless Smithy was lying?
Stupid part about it if you check out the post I was actually praising the show as I do with 99% of my posts.
I'd assume he's talking about Footysa as there's a clown or 2 on there that have actually been bagging 5RPH where I promote 5RPH.

I would have thought so but I just did a quick search through that thread and there was no mention of 80s music, only my post on here praising them.

Could I have a radio personality stalking me?

1 last dig about 80s music in the closing sentence tonight.

Surely my opinion isn't that important, is it? :?

Anyway, I just shot off an email to Smithy to see exactly what context the comment was made in.
Stay tuned for further details.

I have had a look over there and it may have come from there.

But it must have hit a nerve as that was the lead into the show and he was a tad not happy. He called the poster a liar!

Well as I said, it couldn't have been me as my post is still there for all and sundry and if anything was a complimentary post, it must have been on Footysa.

RM, did he specifically say it was from a website or perhaps an email?
And was he perhaps just taking the piss?

Geez I heard it and thought it may have been about your post when I heard it Wedgie - having read it when you originally posted it and reading it again tonight, it sure was what he was having a go at!

Smithy was very upset - and got on his "broken down soap box" and carried on and then that dickhead Blandis joined in (Yes Smith and your wanker of a comedic side kick mate - we know you read the site) basically stating you can only type with one hand because you were pulling your "pud" with the other (That was Blandis terminology and input - very mature and professional!). Smith also got most upset that you didn't even get his name right calling him Smith not Smithy - which I'm sure was a typo???. HELLO - Smith is your surname is it not!

Then to put the cream on the cake they both started on about hiding behind "anonymous nicknames" and basically not having the guts to say it openly to him/them or whoever. Then they gave away the fact that the person who posted the comment then removed it from HIS OWN website. He may as well have come out and named you but he got it wrong in his rantings because clearly you never removed the post so he is looking like a real tool now - as you proved tonight by showing the link earlier in this thread. The way he carried on gave the impression that the post was made after last Monday's show but in fact you posted it on the 10th of July so he either has just read it recently or he has stewed over it since then - who would know given he carried on like a lunatic? I'm suprised he didn't "rant and rave" about it on C31 last Sunday?

Reading your original post all you said was that it "seemed like" like 20 mins of 80's songs - you never actually said it was a definite 20 minutes but Smithy raced into the studio and listened and timed the show and then his clowning side kick Blandis gave us an added up total of what Smithy had run through.

Seriously, RPH do a great job being a community radio station and the fact that all the commentators etc give up their time for free but Smithy was way over the top tonight and it was an unnecessary cheap attack to a comment that meant no harm originally. Also Blandis went over board with his inference that the person in question was a wanker with his dickhead comments.

And to think what you have contributed to SA Footy Forums - it was an uncalled for attack and way over the top for a supposed professional radio show/service that sprouts it is the Premier SANFL Station. It wa the sort of rantings usually reserved for Cornes on 5AA!

P.S. I'm happy to say this all to your face Smithy - I'm sure Wedgie can direct you to me one day!

Oh dear, if that's the case then its very sad, and yes you're right Drebin, "Smith" was a typo as I always refer to Darryl Smith as "Smithy" and the post he took it from was never deleted and was meant to be a compliment to a show he hosts which I enjoy.
It'd be very sad if him forgetting which post it was on was his reasoning behind him stating a deadset falsehood.
Perhaps I should consult my lawyer?

I can understand Paul Blandis being upset with me, mind you I could understand him being upset with 100s of people online (if not everyone that tunes into 5rph) but for some reason I cop the brunt of most but I'm not worried there as we all know most people's opinion of his efforts on air.
And as for hiding behind a "nickname", 99% of people know me as Wedgie (basically everyone except for my family) and I don't understand how that would be deemed as hiding behind a nickname, its not hard for anyone in the SANFL loop to know my "real" name is Anthony Wegener.

Very disappointed with Smithy if that is the case, obviously he has issues and I'd appreciate/prefer it if he'd discuss them with me personally, I'm sure Phil would pass on my phone number or email address or even home address to him if he was that distressed. I actually appreciate the way Smithy puts Blandis in his place on air and have only been critical of Smithy in a North v Sturt game in 2004 when he thought there was no North supporters at the game (only to be pointed out how wrong he was by Phil) and when he got a white player mixed up with an aboriginal player.

Someone's obviously looking for an axe to grind and considering I'm one of their main supporters that's sad.
Before making further judgements I'll await a reply to the email I sent to Smithy tonight.
I certainly won't hold it against the fine job that 5RPH do as a whole and the respect and enjoyment I get out of the radio station and I'll continue to tune in to their fantastic coverage of the SANFL.

Perhaps dreb can host the show with a former norf champion big Gren or Tony Antrobus or even S Riley. Then no one would ever complain
But it was more than a victory for Greece. It was a stirring example to free people throughout the world of what a few brave men can accomplish once they refuse to submit to tyranny.

You're off the mark there sturt1, noone's complaining about Smithy's hosting of the show, he's only had compliments from people on this site (unlike another site), the issue is if he's made a blatant lie and overreacted over what was in context meant as a compliment.
Personally without hearing the context of the way he said it I think he was probably just taking the piss but I'm holding full judgement until I hear from the man himself.

PS S.Riley is a duel premiership player so perhaps he'd have better credentials?
(Not to mention Grenville being a State player who kicked over 100 twice and the Ant being a Magarey Medalist)

PPS Smithy is a registered user here so I'm sure he'll elaborate.

PPPS I could probably type quicker than most still with one hand as with both I type at almost 60wpm but it takes 2 hands to pull my "pud"
