SAAFL Div 4 & 4R (2009)

Agreed, you can't replace a gun defender. What I will say though is that you have to get it down to your forwards for them to score, and that generally happens through the midfield. Coulter plays in the middle theirfore he gets the ball before Sok does. One player does not make a side.........but a gun midfielder certainly helps! That is why they will be very competitive next year and the second half of this year.

With all these rumours of Havens losing players and every other club recruiting and spending big, might just be in danger of returning to div 5 to meet the old foe Rosies

That does this mean Salisbury get another crack at in Div 3 Pag?

If so Unley will do the Houdinie act again to escape Div 5?
Yes mate, Salisbury will be in Div 3. Up to Unley whether they stay up or decide to go down. If they do the latter, it would give Pulteney the opportunity to say in Div 4.

Well If Unley get the chance they will take it as there is a mutual hatred between them and Pulteney over the years..........

The last thing Div 4 needs is Pulteney, every club should offer Unley a Keg of beer or in their case a case Pinot Noir to stay up

Roaring Lion! wrote:Seen a few boys are having a stab at the ladder for the end of the home & away season with Choccies taking a poll so thought id give it a crack as looks like a bit of fun so here goes!

1. PAOC - these boys were spewing not to go back up to Div 3 after being in the Top 2 all year in '08!
2. POORAKA - were the form side at the half way mark, another ex Div 3 side & played Div 4 finals the last 2 years!
3. FITZROY - had a good finish to '08 & have a good squad to have a real crack at the title in '09!
4. GREENACRES - big step to Div 4, big $ pick up's, big backer Nth AD FC, wont stay in here long, 2-3 seasons tops!
5. GOLDEN GROVE - '07 Div 5 GF teams didnt play '08 Div 4 finals? Can these boys as already up 2 Div's in 2 years?

6. SALISBURY WEST - back to Div 4 but had success here & a premiership U/18's squad this team will be on the rise!
7. NORTH HAVEN - them player loses will hurt but another team with a great U/18's squad that will see benefits soon!
8. ADELAIDE LUTHERAN - similar to last years results & will miss finals by a couple of games!
9. CBCOC - can & will match it with the Big Boys is just their depth thats a worry for them!
10. UNLEY - wont be easy beats as have the ability to knock off Top Teams is just consistancy!

This be a very interesting year in the most even Division so enjoy & have fun boys!

I would have CBC a lot higher...
Just thinking of 2 recent high-profile coaches in Div 4- McIntosh and Fabian Francis, both ended year with a premiership.
fair to say D. Jarman more high profile than these 2 as well.

Yeah but both those coaches had decent squads to work with though!

Payneham especially. I played against them when they came up to Div 3 and they looked good.
Can't say CBCOC have any players atm of the same standard. They would have to recruit heavily IMO

Good Coach + Good Squad = Successful team
Good Coach + Same squad = Improvement

I could be wrong, haven't heard any names being thrown around that CBC have recruited? Have they lost anyone from last year?

If he gets any larger he'll be a bus !!
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

That is a good question!

I would have thought having been assistant to brother Andrew at North he would have some pretty good ideas!
One thing i'm not sure on is why is he coaching CBC? Was that his old high school or something?

I think the profile (recruits, sponsorship, members, excitement etc..) as much as the coaching helped those two sides... but I could be wrong.

Instead of focussing on why just know that he is coaching CBC for his own reasons.

As far as lists go, depth was an issue but our best 18 is easily good enough, just ask the teams we beat in the last 3 rounds.

Have we lost any? who knows, we dont have contracts so I no one could possible say at this stage.

Have we gained any, yes.

Clubs have been trying to poach our players, and having Jarman has helped keep those clubs away.

Mark my words, we will be a much stronger side next year.

Its funny though, all of these so called marquee recruits aside from Coulter, Ricciuto, Modra I have never heard of.

Must be huge impact players.

You just reitterated my point. If we told you our recruits, unless they were high profile names, you wouldn't know who they were and if they were any good and would probably assume they are no good.

Ofcourse you have heard of those three players, they've played AFL and SANFL.
Alot of these recruits that get spoken about have played solid amatuer or country footy for years. Just coz you haven't heard of them doesn't mean much. Most people on this forum have heard of the players mentioned.

All i'm saying about CBCOC is that they would want to pick up some players to help them as it looks like the sides that finished above them this year have done so already.
At Pooraka's best last year we knocked you off by over 15 goals. At our worst with all our injuries you beat us by 1 goal.

Same thing happens to most clubs that don't have depth, (including us) your best 18 will normally match it with the top sides any given day, but its when you get a few injuries or have players who have to work, your next 6 players that come up don't cut it. That's what CBCOC problem was this year (judging on their b grade) as was Pooraka's. That's why you need to do some recruiting Dolphin Express.

If you look at the top three sides last year in Portland Mitcham and PAOC, their B grades all played finals suggesting some good depth. Same the year before with Parahills, Salisbury and Mitcham.

Yep, all obvious points. But dont assume we are not recruiting just because you dont know who they are just as i wont for other teams. i dont think we will go blurting our recruits for everyone to know when every year we are under siege by teams trying to poach our players.

I can confirm our former captain is returning from overseas.
