Centrals guernsey for this week

Postby RustyCage » Wed Jul 26, 2006 11:51 pm

Much better than the crap they wear now.

CENTRAL DISTRICT HEAD BACK TO THE 70s...

Image

With the SANFL’s “Living in the 70’s” Theme Round this weekend, the Central District Football Club are paying tribute to the 70’s by taking to the field in 70’s style guernseys.

The guernsey is a complete replica of the guernsey worn by the Club until 1979 when the white-style guernsey was introduced. These one-off guernseys will be worn during this Saturday’s Central District v South Adelaide clash at Hamra Homes Oval, to commemorate the SANFL’s “Living in the 70’s” Theme Round.

The match-worn guernseys will be auctioned on eBay to raise funds to support the Junior Football Program in the Northern Community.

This Saturday afternoon also sees North Adelaide take on Norwood at Prospect Oval and the Eagles clash with West Adelaide at Woodville Oval. Sunday afternoon, Glenelg meet Port Adelaide at Glenelg Oval in an attempt to remain in finals contention.

It has been reported that the above jumper was Central's first league guernsey, which is incorrect. The above jumper (which is my favourite Central jumper) was introduced in 1968 when Dennis Jones took over as coach of the Bulldogs.

For the first 4 years under Ken Eustice (1964-67), Central wore Footscray style jumpers which were similar to their current jumpers.

It never ceases to amze me how football organisations continually provide players and supporters with guernsey clashes. If there were 2 teams the dogs heritage jumper shouldnt be wron against it is Norwood and South.

And guess who they are playing

It wouldn't clash with Norwood or South, the blue is a lot lighter than Norwood and South's jumpers. When they wore it in the 1970s there was no clash problems whatsoever.

24-carat GOLD again, zipper.

But since this is the '70s round, shouldn't the sponsor be CES in that funny greekish font?

ha ha, very funny stuff! And I suppose on Port's guernsey there will be a picture of a toothless old hag sitting on Wharf 12 pulling in a Trumpeter? Sturt & Norwood will have pictures of empty money boxes? The Wiggles will have a picture of a disabled person's bus?

Yeah the good old Pram lady is one of a kind but at least our supporters are well behaved in a way like all clubs we do have our stupid supporters.

Is that the Shonk - with a capital 'S' - that had a practice (maybe still does?) on Commercial Rd, Salisbury?

All jokes aside, that's a great guernsey. Anything would be better than the strip trotted out by the club in the 80's...they looked like frigging umpires.
