Can be great night time entertainment, but obviously not so good when the storm has destructive impact.

Mr MK and I have just had the pleasure of spending ten days in your state culminating in a flight home on the 16th after the last three days in Brisbane. I can say that that day was the most beautiful day. I'm one of those rare individuals that survives in any flavour of warm to hot to very hot regardless.

We saw the weather forecast for our flight and had some trepidation we would get out in time. We did, however only just and it was a spectacular sight from the air and an extremely bumpy ride out. While I love the heat, I prefer the non-extreme weather we live with most of the time down here.

Yes, I see they predicted another 'major' storm coming last night and put out a severe warning bulliten and then cancelled it !

Has this always been the weather pattern in Queensland?
As in severe thunderstorms etc.

Or has it changed in recent years??

The Switch got 250mm of rain last night. I've never seen anything like it before in my life. For my fellow South Australians who haven't experienced it, Qld weather at this time of year is absolutely feral.

All winter we hardly get a drop but once it gets to October/November KABOOM. Heaps of people are off work today because they've got to clean up after parts of Ipswich were flooded. The poor bloke in the Kebab shop downstairs from my office has what looks like thousands of dollars of damage to his business.

My training room had a PC that had pools of water on it! We' also got some industrial action happening as well as some clown who sent an all council email about the strike the other day from a training PC so it's a really weird vibe around here at the moment. Everyone's gone Troppo!

regards,

REB you should see how dry it is down here already, in November :(

Wish we could have some of that rain.

just got back from Brissy, went up on monday morning after the storm and stayed at my mates place in Keperra which along with The Gap wore the brunt of the storm, trees down every where but my mate was very lucky, no house damage or broken windows but he did have his big mango tree fall down, he is spewing about that one

had a quick drive around the neighbourhood and plenty of damage, fences down, tarps on roofs, trees fell on houses, on cars etc

then they had more storms last night (not as severe) but plenty of localised flooding and I think more rain/storms forecast for tonite
I lived in Brisbane for 6 years in the late 80's/early 90's and happy to visit but am always happy to return to Adelaide

Just got hit with another storm tonight and the winds were fierce.

Looks like the Gold Coast copped the worst of it.

It's cyclical, although it's always part of the sub-tropical climate to some extent.
A read something a couple of months back about a predicted bigger storm season this year and that's the way it' panning out.
I think it's ocean related -the El Nino and La Nina phenonema are involved somehow.

I think they've got all they need JAS, snowed in the alps on the weekend. You wouldn't think it was spring here, weird. However, still no rain for us :(
