Maybe you didn't have them up, there was some work being done and some photos were difficult to see because there was a roped off area where work was being done. Definately bugger all photos up though.

Why does everyone think I'm from Kilburn? I just got sucked in to a silly little argument because some silly little B graders started bagging a club that I respect(because they beat us a fair bit).

Might have to wander down to a Portland game this year and see if you guys play as well as you talk. Actually, I'll take that back, you all talk like fools. If you play like you talk I'll expect some haphazard dribble. Should be lots of talk from the bench too!

I didnt realise there were any reasons NOT to stay up in a higher division. Going on what you just said, SMOSH choosing to go down a division could cost them sponsorship as they are more CONTENT to be in a lower division. The only reason you gave to why SMOSH chose to be relegated was because they dont have a good enough team, so in other words they're soft. Surely Scoth's team wont be flag favourites but they chose to stay up and i think all their players, young and old, will be better for.

I honestly think there is only one good reason justifying a choice in playing in a lower grade, and that is if the club cannot make the payments to stay in that division and there is a chance the club could go under because of the financial pressure. I doubt SMOSH are in that boat.

smosh took the soft option!!
they could have stayed up and as you said
both young and old would have benefited from playing against better oposition, if they were to avoid relegaton next season, then they can re group and they know what they have to do!!
but now they have to start again back in div 3!!!
they just wanna be a big fish in a little pond!!
get on board the thunder train!!!

Walkerville painted themselves into a corner by only paying by the win which whilst honorable is not very smart from a recruiting point of view because the new boys only want to play in a winning side for obvious reasons and if they excel too much they get nothing in a higher grade because the comp is too hard.

Yes I know my freind it has been a while. It has been interesting reading the thoughts and self gratifying nature that sturtman has. Notice it takes him a while to type. He types with one hand because the other one is too busy  . Have not been at training coz of work and my notorious knee has bitten the pillow again. Going in for surgery on Monday. They are trying something different this time so I can be ready for the start of the season. I didnt get picked up in the draft this year so I will be back with the boys next year.

I'm sure you could tell us Stag, since you know so much about our financial situation, you must know of some 'recruits'.

Don't make yourself look like an idiot now by making a stupid statement then failing to back it up with some proof.

Someone posted that Salisbury will start paying players.

Then came this:

Pag wrote:Being one of Justin McPherson's best mates, I know what he got offered, and I can tell you all, he knocked it back and is staying at Salisbury and not heading to Greenacres. All of his best mates are at the club, as he hasn't played anywhere else (except school footy at Trinity), and he decided he wanted to keep playing footy with the guys he drinks with every Saturday night. I also know who else Greenacres have talked to, but I'm not sure what he is doing as of yet.

Chief, I'd love to know where you got your 'information' from. I'm guessing I know who you're talking about, and to the best of my knowledge, the club is still not going to be paying players on a per game basis. We are doing things to make the club look like a more attractive place to play footy, and have had some interviews this week, but I can tell you there were numerous names on the list of possibilities of guys to talk to that we had to cross off as the asking price was too high, and it wasn't even that much coin.

I'm sure people will not believe what I've just written, but I'll put it out there anyway and see what I get back. I'm sure cheif's response will be full of proof backing up his original statement.

You admitted that you are paying players in this post so if anyone is looking like an idiot it is you Paggy boy!

Not sure where I said we were paying players mate. I said we rang people, they asked for too much, they didn't come. Pretty much anything is going to be too much when we give our BOG $60 incentive, and the other 4-5 on a sliding scale from there.

When someone says you are throwing money around and then you say "we are not paying on a per game basis but looking at ways to make the club a more attractive place" it is hardly denial of the year. If you are making deals with individuals then it is obvious the incentive regime will not be the same for everyone.

I wasn't looking for a fight anyway. I just asked if you had managed to attract any new players now you have altered whatever you were doing in the past.

'A more attractive place' had nothing to do with anything monetary, it was referring to a place where guys are happy to bring their kids, a place that has a very healthy social side, and facilities-wise, one of the best, if not THE best place to play & train in the SAAFL. Trying to push these aspects of the club is what I was referring to.

I'm not looking for a fight either. The only thing we have changed is actively seeking guys to see if they'd be interested in coming to this environment, instead of waiting for guys to lob on our doorstep. Nobody who we were interested in was going to be paid on a weekly basis, they would get the same incentives other guys get for being in the best players, which is why we missed out on some guys, but that's football.
