GAWLER TRACK RECORD / RACECALLERS

Postby another grub » Wed Aug 02, 2006 10:05 am

Gee did Jimmy Jacques get excited when Bothing broke the track record at Gawler yeterday, I thought it was the Australian Cup with Brett Lee winning or something like that..... not a mid-week race at Gawler with 20 people watching..... Pull your head in Jimmy.... far too over the top. While they were boxing them he was crapping on about the track record getting broken and when it happened (12 length win) he creamed himself. When the green light came on he said "No more Bets" as if he was on the roulete table at the Casino.
Anyone got any comments on the race callers in this state any we like and dislike?

Folks,

Having made a rare foray to Angle Park on a Thursday night a couple of years back and witnessed a very ordinary exhibition from Hilton, can say he did not uphold his position. While there as a punter - not a Sky employee or the like - his language, shouting at screens and general performance when a dog has had backed was getting beaten was not something to be proud of in the slightest. Can fully accept that they have every right to have a punt in peace like the rest of us, but it was anything but peace for anyone in the vicinity. Disappointing display. However, think he is generally a pretty good caller - although it is fairly easy to pick which horse has backed, in the run (little giveaway clues such as excessively focussing on a certain runner etc).

Papps and Hilton - cant seperate them in a dead heat for last!!!!! both shockers

I caught a couple of races at Gawler yesterday and was impressed with Jimmy's calling and knowledge fo the sport, he brings some character to calling and I reckon its needed!

There was a young guy 10 years ago - Braidwood? not sure but he was good.

Stuey Shenton over in Perth was the best I reckon calling the Perth races in the early 90's "All dressed up but cant find the party"

Hilton is a complete tosser. He calls races which is OK... but his behavior when gambling in between races is a disgrace .... everything Percy said is true. He will back a dog inbetween races and abuse them, swear and be to loud.... if he only knew what he looked like!!!! Whos that red headed bloke (35ish) that hangs around him at the races?? I have seen him working with a bookie at GDP as well.... he's a complete twat. They think they are pro punters and they only have $20 on things....WAP!!!
Terry McAuliff is OK, Ron Papps was crap you are right!!

Totally agree PP, I too have witness HD at his best or should I say worst. His language and behaviour is shocking at times, he walks round like he owns the place turns up the monitors and the like. Heard him have a few conversations to a few average punters and he is always right, dare not disagree with him! Another caller that gets under my skin is Al Thomas from Brisbane! He like HD love to sensationalise everything and easy to pick which nag they had a punt on and don’t even get me on to Larry Olsen's late mail!!! Out of interest have a look how many times his late mail top four are outside the top four in betting...earns his money!!

That race caller from Sydney is bad on TVN. He previously only did trials but got a gig when TVN started up. He is the worst metropolitan caller going around..... its as if he's calling a trial.

Race callers in SA are very good.
Jaques and Donaldson are great to listen to as they put
some excitement in the race.
Jacques and Donaldson are similar to Ray Fewings as they like to declare
horses in the run on how they will finish.
In some places in the world the callers call the number of the runner
which is very ordinary.
These guys must have exceptional talents, I have tried calling
a race and just to memorise the runners by numbers or colours
is very difficult.
As for Donaldsons antics in the greyhound betting ring, racetracks are
dull, listless and rarely attended, we need personalities like Donaldson.
I know his behaviour becomes raciuos at times but who cares.
After all it is Angle Park and when in Rome do as the Romans do.

Who can forget Ron Papps isms :
"beaten by a lizards lip... beaten by a cows brow...2 of his famous isms.

I like them.

Hilton Donaldson is just a desperate punter.

his actions at Angle Park a few years ago was a complete and utter disgrace. I used to go regularly and he was there all the time also. He may not be there in an official capacity but surely he is bringing the businesses he works for into disrepute for his appalling behavior. He just shouldnt drink alcohol because he simply cant handle it. As for his race calling, its shocking, a race today at the bridge he called something as charging home on the outside fence, making it sound like it was challenging for the win and it just battled into second place 4 lengths behind the winner.

Jimmy is a good caller, his knowledge of both trots and dogs is great. he may have been over the top with BOTHING at gawler on tuesday but someone had to, the dog did smash the track record!!!!!!!!!! i guess he didnt realise that Bothing smashed the record in a trial on the friday before.

i see LARRY OLSEN gets a mention about his late mail, but honestly is there is a person who does the late mail on SKY that does not pick the first 4 favs????

this is off race calling, but footy calling BRENTON YATES is up there with the best, he calls it as it is happening, he doesnt anticipate or guess it, he calls it as it is. That is what people want.
