Anyone heard anything about the Under 21 Association team?

G'day young Pidgey! I will be discussing the possibility of fielding an U21 side in the final round of the CUSA Cup with the Association Exec., probably more seriously after the National Champs. I'll have a chat to Tige (The Prez) when we're away in Melbourne and see what he reckons. At the start of the CUSA Cup, we were asked whether we wanted to field an U21's side, and to be brutally honest, we had not seen much interest at all at a representative level from many in that age group, so we opted against it. We also had the National Champs to focus on as a priority. I am not sure whether CUSA will allow us to field an under 21 side if we advised that we would not have one. That is something we need to clarify.

And as you can appreciate, half the battle is trying to get people to volunteer their time to look after the side - coach, score, manager etc.. As the Nat Champs will already be over, I am happy to put my hand up to coach the side if there is enough interest and we can field a side. I might even take Mr Gossiper up on his offer of providing assistance in running the team..

In the meantime, do some networking amongst the young fella's and see what you can muster up and find out who's keen..

As for young Josh Baker, he is an excellent young cricketer with a great work ethic and a willingness to learn and improve. It's great to see him reaping the successes he is at present. At the same time, it's important to carefully manage his workload on a growing body, especially on the bowling front..

On the subject of training, it is absolutely necessary. Yes, some blokes can just pick up a bat or a ball and get it done, but it would take an exceptional player to keep performing without some form of decent practice. Where would you first practice a 'change-up' ball?? How would you sort out some minor deficiency that is having a major impact on your performances?? Where would you hone the basics to build your game from?? And if you think you can't learn anymore, you're either not going to improve or it's time to give the game away. Just my two bob's worth..

The game between Rose Park and Fitzies after chrissy becomes a huge one now, if fitzroy lose they will be 2 games behind 5th. If they win they will be pushing on the top4 and finals. Hopefully we can field a decent side. In regards to u21 i think we would have somewhere between 2 and 5 players interested and capable, and maybe a support staff or two. In regards to never stopping learning about cricket i agree, just that the older you are the smaller the learning curve is. Someone like pidge(18) could play, train and learn about cricket every day of the week.

rose park chased down pawowie with only 5 down. pretty good effort. reidy got runs (though he tore his groin...is he going to the nats??) and clarke also. Fitz V Rosepark will be the game of the round after xmas....expect a big fitzy win. Pawowie to lose to Vista, and NEK to prob beat Morialta.

btw, what the hell happened in the morialta v Vista game??? was that a misprint all out for 52???? I knew they couldnt bat all that well, but paravista cant really bowl that well either!! Was there a surpise "in" for vista...i.e Shaun Tait?

After seeing NEK play for the first time...i cant believe they havent lost a game. Definately not finals savvy, although they will be there. A team of mostly sloggers cant keep on getting lucky. They have some talent for sure, but it wasnt the super team i expected. They obviously gel as mates and a team, which goes a long way in cricket.

...its a dull day when you dont learn something new!!
i am yet to deliver successive broken nose balls....so i will keep training hard.

Also heard that Rose Park are missing one of there best batters (P.Hicks), also one of their best opening bowlers played with a groin injury and only came off short runup at 1st change, also Reidy with a groin too.

Weve had those problems all year, going into games with only a couple of recognised bats and the same with the bowling, but if you look at the last couple of years of Div1, fitzroy, have only just managed to scrape into finals and then put everyone on the field together to play great cricket. i think this just proves you only have to make the finals and anything can happen!

i believe that puts them 1 game clear of fitzroy, which makes first game after chrissy, fitzroy v rose park very interesting

rose park are a great bunch of blokes. Dunno about Hicks being their best bat (im sure he would tell you that he is !!! ), but they have struggled to be consistantly competitive for the last few years. Wooden spooned it last year and the year before they were very close to it too.....but perhaps the momentum has started to swing.

as Auto said, come finals time, EVERYONE is suddenly available. getting to the finals is always a challange for teams that consitently fail to feild a solid team. This is certainly the case with pawowie, fitzy, and rose park to some extent. Morialta has had a rock solid core for some time and they fail when their big names are out. Paravista is always solid with their group, and NEK has had a consistent line up from what some of their players have said.

luckily for the bottom 3 teams there are more games, which introduces alot more combinations and permutations. the increase in one dayers adds a new twist as points accrued are normally less, and there is no chanve of outright. certainly the last 2 rounds have helped the bottom 3 teams, the next game is crucial to all of them.

i wouldnt want to finish top this year. cos who ever finished 4th will be very hungry. lets hope morialta can get past their semi final blues too

Like has been said if everyone was available it might be a different story. See how the season ends up i guess. Only have to make finals then who knows. IM not getting into a slanging match or trying to defend myself
