Perth dreaming of a hot Christmas
Chris Thomson
December 11, 2008
Perth is likely to shake off recent chilly weather to record a hot Christmas Day with mostly sunny skies and a high of 32 degrees.

"The forecast will be updated daily on our website but at this stage we are expecting a hot, mostly sunny day in Perth with a likely temperature range of 18 to 32 degrees, three above average," weatherzone.com.au meteorologist Thomas Saunders said.

"A repeat of the 2007 Christmas heatwave appears unlikely.

"Last year temperatures in Perth reached 41 degrees on the 25th and a scorching 44 on the 26th," Mr Saunders said.

Perth's hottest Christmas Day on record was in 1968 when the mercury hit 42 degrees.

The coldest was 20 degrees in 1945.

Brisbane:

FORGET the hot roast and baked vegies for the traditional yuletide lunch, a hot and stormy Christmas Day is forecast for much of Queensland.
The weather bureau expects isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms for Brisbane and the Darling Downs and surrounds tomorrow, while it will be mostly fine over the rest of the state, The Courier Mail reports.
Temperatures will be three to four degrees above average across most of the interior but near average temperatures are forecast for the coast, with Brisbane expecting a maximum approaching 30C.
Weather bureau forecaster Gordon Banks said yesterday if cloud was widespread, it would help hold temperatures down.
"There's a lot of variation in our computer models for Christmas Day," Mr Banks said.
"The bottom line is it will be quite unsettled with showers and storms about.
"The Gold and Sunshine coasts will have similar conditions."

Melbourne:

IT'S 24 sleeps away, but sunny skies are tipped for Christmas Day. And we can expect to toss and turn during the warm months.
Official forecasters are predicting a long, hot summer, with Melbourne temperatures likely to be above the December-February average of 24-27C.
And Christmas Day should be fine and around 30C, according to unofficial long-range estimates.
