Where possible I agree with that ... Was interesting talking to a couple of mates about the era when AB lead a lot of the youngsters around 20-odd years ago ... Sure they copped a few hidings at first, but it was great watching them all develop and flourish next to a few re-cycled players, was perhaps the most exciting time Ive witnessed in cricket.

Then of course once they became good they stayed good for a long time to come (granted there were a number of once in a generation or lifetime types in that lot)

We need to rebuild and are in the process of doing so but all bets are off against the poms. Give Warnie a call a week out from the first Test, put a blank cheque in his hand and let him do his thing. Even in the IPL more than a year out of the game he showed he still had it. He'll get another IPL season into him yet and about a month after that ends the Ashes start. If he hadn't played since early '07 different story.

No one is suggesting he would be the Warnie of old but he'd still be twice as good as anything else we've got.

This is an exciting time for cricket in Australia. We have been dominant for almost 20 years (before that we were complaining about the windies) and now we are at a stage were a young bloke can get a game and prove himself at international level, very much like the late 80's when this dynasty of Australian dominance started.
