Australian ODI team

Postby the joker » Thu Jan 01, 2009 1:01 pm

with the end of the test summer coming to end quickly, we should look at the side to face South Africa and then New zealand in the one dayers and t20 matches.
Australia's last ODI match was back in september and the side was

Shaun Marsh
shane watson
Michael Clarke
Mike Hussey
Dave Hussey
Brad Haddin
james Hopes
Mitchell Johnson
Nathan Bracken
Stuart Clark

There will be a few Changes to that team, Hayden will Replace Watson, Marsh doesent deserve a spot after his domestic season so far with scores of 1, 13, 18, 27 at an average of 14. Stuart Clark is injured, but you think if taity is fit before then he will come straight in to the team. and they are hoping that Symonds will be fit so he will come in and Ponting will come in.
so the side could be

Matthew Hayden
Michael Clarke
Ricky Ponting
Andrew Symonds
Mike Hussey
Dave Hussey
Brad Haddin
James Hopes
Mitchell Johnson
Nathan Bracken
Shaun Tait

Other Players that could get a look in for a spot in the ODI team this season would be
Aaron Bird, Brett Geeves, Brendan Drew, Aaron Heal, Xavier Doherty, Phil Hughes, Dave Warner, Callum Ferguson, Michael Klinger, Adam Voges and Brad Hodge

with it dot 1 carry the 2 virtaully exactly half way between then next and the last world cup expect lots of young blokes to be given a chance in the one day side.

In 2001-02 and 2005-06 experiments were made in one day side selections to test players out. (01-02 lehman dropped) end of 01-02 S waugh and M waugh dropped and Watson put in. 2004-05 2005-06 hayden and Bichel dropped and Hodge and Hopes put in. Therefore despite injury you can forget about Hayden, Symonds, Hodge and Lee getting picked as they will look towards 2011.

Who knows what the side will be but I can see B Geeves, S marsh, D Hussey and even M Klinger being given a go over the next few weeks as the selectors look to see who can play in 2011
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I think Tassie has read the current situation right

eg, I think they could use the ODIs to replace Haydos with Hughes to have a better look at him

Wouldn't be surprised if Warner from NSW gets a call up to the one day team this summer...Would love to see Ronchi in there also but don't think that will happen.

Not sure why people make such a fuss over Ronchi. He's not that flash with the gloves and is just a slogger who gets worked out far to easily by bowlers. Very over rated cricketer IMHO.

Never mentioned Haddin but since you did, Haddin, whilst not the best keeper going around, is still a lot better than Ronchi. Haddin is also so far superior with the bat that there is no point making a comparison. Would be like Gilly never left you say? Well Gilly actually made runs consistently whereas Ronchi can't even do that in the domestic comp.

if they were to play a spinner in the ODI side i dare say it would be hauritz. he has bowled extremely well for NSW in the ODI format for a fair while now, and as he is in the test side i think that shows the selectors are definitely looking closely at him! hopefully he gets a gig in the ODI side aswell...very good bowler in one day cricket, but if its not hauritz it will be cullen i would think

Marsh
Hopes (I didn't like him, but now that McDonald is in the team, I feel sorry for the catfish)
Ponting
Clarke
Symonds
Hussey
Haddin
Johnson
Hilfenhaus
Bracken
Tait

We're still easily the best ODI side. Would've been an even better side with Watto.

The reason why the ODI side is good, is because form players tend to get a run in the ODI team - Normally that is. Thats why the team performs well. And there are some good cricketers in that team. The Hilf will bowl well with the white ball.
