Agreed he hasn't done much this year so far but he is capable and i am sure he will turn it around sooner rather than later. He is still only young and worth sticking with for a while IMO.

on current domestic form he doesn't deserve to... but has had a great start to his ODI career. 3 50's in 8 innings average of 47

I expect more than this from you SlipsQueen. Did Mark Waugh open? Did Adam Gilchrist open? Come on mate think before you post.

PS - Obviously I'm not a Watto fan but would have him anyday over Marshy. r

Katich: 33y.o, averages 36 with a S/R of 68.74 in ODI, we need to look more long term.
Watto: 27y.o, would be ok if he could last a full summer
D.Hussey: 31y.o, does he have the opening capabilities
Klinger: 28y.o, probably just scrapes in age-wise, having a stellar season
Ferguson: 24y.o, lacks consistency and doesn't really have a great Domestic record, doesn't open either. Could be ear-marked though for the next world cup.
Hopes: 30y.o, can open and can be used as a bowler, would we get the mileage out of him though.

Marsh is getting a run because we have to start looking to the future, the next two World Cups will be tough if we don't start blooding some youth.

That would be fine, however the selectors are completely ignoring the fact that Marsh is a dud.

Here endeth the lesson. Surely we don't need to hand out caps to blokes 'because they are young'. David Hussey can come in AND play the next world cup. You don't need to plan two world cups ahead for the lottery that is one day cricket.

That line of thinking is why we are losing our grip on the number 1 spot, we didn't blood enough players forthe exodus that we have had and will continue to have over the next couple of years, we have a pretty old playing list.

The question needs to be asked, are we trying to win the upcoming tri-series or are we preparing for the next world cup.

So rather than pick the best players you would have the team filled with duds who happen to fit into a certain age category? That's a sure fire recipe for success. A side of young duds.

Not at all, there needs to be some balance and we need to be introducing young fella's into the international scene. My point was that we haven't done enough of it in the last few years. We've lost Langer, Warne, Gilly, McGrath, Martyn, Hogg, MacGill and now Hayden yet we haven't done enough preparation to cover those losses.
