Bit of a reality check for Warner last night I thought.

Interesting to see what happens when International standard bowlers get a chance to do some homework beforehand.

Given it's 20-20 you can no more rely on his first game than last night in making an assessment. However, I think it shows that we need to be a bit careful with our expecations on a couple of our young (potential) guns around the country. The step up from state cricket is bigger than we sometimes think. Especially for Warner he has a lot of development still to do in First Class cricket.

Marsh's domestic season has been poor, But his International 50 over form is outstanding.
This is why the selectors stuck with him and did not groom Warner, round 1 to those selectors, and NFC is

Actually this David Warner hysteria would never have got off the ground had mid-on been about 2-foot deeper last Sunday for the first over of the innings. Warner's mis-timed thrash off Makhaya Ntini only just cleared Albie Morkel's outstretched (and very safe) hands.

There's no doubting Warner's skill as a big hitter but a little bit of luck can sometimes take you a long way in a short time!

He played a very ordinary shot when Steyn knocked his middle pole back at the Gabba on Tuesday.

At this stage Shaun Marsh is the better batsman by a fair margin.

I reckon Shaun Marsh has done really well so far in the one dayers and I might have been a bit quick to bag him based on his Warriors form, or lack of it. Problem is, the guy has got into the high 70's twice and hasn't gone on with it twice. I reckon another 50 runs over those two knocks and the test spot would have been his. His inability to finish off might relegate him to 'one dayers only'. He really coughed up his wicket today in particular.

I'd have to agree. I'd leave Warner in for the rest of this series though and just give him the freedom to play naturally. You can't expect a young guy who hasn't even played a Shield game to consistently belt the best bowler in Cricket around the place. He copped a beauty today but he was trying to play a pretty funky shot.

Gilchrist always said that being involved in the odi team before making his debut in test cricket helped him and made him feel comfortable from the first ball of his test career.

I have to say I was thinking the same thing when Warner walked off yesterday.

What worries me about Warner is if the demons start nagging him about his lack of first-class experience

It would take a confident player to put that behind him and feel like he belongs in International cricket

I'd hate to see us de-rail a great talent by putting OTT expectations on him too early. That first 20-20 innings could end up being his curse.
