Hang on a minute... They still had hot days back in 1889  ... Maybe global warming is a storm in a teacup???

It makes me wonder, what happens to all the storm water and waste water that those million odd sods in Adelaide use up? Gets all pumped out to sea doesn't it?

How much would it cost to pump all that water inland to where it is most needed?
I read somewhere that the Lib's (or the Lab's) spent a bucketload of cash building a pipeline into the Gulf of St Vincent to carry all our poo and washing water away from the coast.
I bet there's some trees that would love that poo and washing water over these next few days.

Treated waste water from Bolivar is watering the market gardens, they are buiding a pipe from the Glenelg treatment works to the city to water the parklands, not sure about Pt Adelaide or the one down south

Something else to look out for is a 30+ degree minimum. There have been 30 such:

24 1 1982 33.5
10 1 1939 33.2
22 1 2006 33.1
12 2 1899 32.9
15 1 1888 32.8
3 1 1991 32.7
13 1 1939 32.6
20 1 1973 32.3
1 2 1898 32.0
29 12 1897 31.8
8 2 1970 31.7
11 2 1901 31.4
15 1 1960 31.1
8 2 1983 31.1
9 1 1930 30.8
28 1 1900 30.7
22 1 1889 30.6
17 2 1896 30.6
18 2 2007 30.5
1 1 1900 30.3
15 2 1919 30.3
14 3 2008 30.2
2 1 1900 30.1
7 12 1908 30.1
30 11 1922 30.1
2 2 1915 30.0
21 2 1965 30.0
31 1 1968 30.0
31 1 1969 30.0
15 2 2004 30.0

These also follow the similar pattern in the other lists. 17 before 1940; 4 in the last decade. However, there are a few during the period between 1960-1973 (the era of the high average minimums). 1900 had three such temperatures.

I reckon people just need to start talking about it and the pollies will sit up and notice, especially if the ones we have at the moment are as reactionary as I have been reading on the politics forum.
Storm water harvesting makes perfect sense, Adelaide is rooftops, upon driveways, upon streets carparks etc, it would be so expensive to build a purpose designed water collection as efficient as what a city is. Yet we just let all that water go out to sea, it is basically viewed as a potential nuisance which could erode under our buildings if given the chance.

It is more than just a good idea. It is a disgrace it is not happening. Adelaide gets plenty of rain each year.

If a road is, conservatively, 15mt wide, then during a dryish 20-inch rainfall (Adelaide averages 25-26 inches Spelly?), just 1km of road would catch 7,500,000 litres a year. There would be a small wastage through cleaning, filtering, etc and at times not every drop would be able to be stored.
But over all of Adelaide, how much would we be able to catch? We would be able to be close to self-sufficient, with the Murray as a back-up, not our principal source of water. We may not even need to draw on it in those years we get a Jan or Feb rain
