I think finals contenders would be what they are aiming for but not sure they will get that close. Time will tell.... I see on the GSFL thread that Maccy have signed Ronald Rankine from Encounter Bay ex Modbury who would be a reasonable recruit if he is switched on

Not looking promising :( :(

I was told today that Cally allegedly have a coach and 60 signed players. Ex-Murray Bridge Redleg coach apparently and is 'bringing players'. Good luck to them if this is so. But hell hard to believe. Anyone know anymore?

Any reason why Hills Country couldn't have a similar sytem to the Yorke Peninsula and follow a permit system?
Basically you come ninth - you are able to have 9 new recruits the next year, 5th - 5, 1st just the one etc.
Permits could hold for two years.
Would encourage promotion of juniors and retention of any recruits.

Would even up the comp - on the Yorke's the Southern Eagles won the flag from fifth this year in a league where there aren't too many blowouts...

Torrens Valley would fold and Kersbrook would win the flag every year. :D

You are correct bobster. I think we probably just meant to agree in theory that Cally wouldn't be able to field an 'A' Grade. The only option if they can't is to field a 'C' Grade, and they'd want to sort that one out well before the last minute.

The name of former Maccy A grade player Peter Mackie has also been splashed around. Would be a good pickup

Word has it two Hills Country teams looking to be allocated more points (Big Fella could confirm). Maccy and TV are having trouble getting their recruits and 35 points on the field.

I could understand the league helping Maccy but why would it help TV, having played in 3 out of the last 4 GFs. TV crying foul over Cooper being awarded 2 points this season despite working in the District. Isn't the points system in place to keep clubs promoting juniors to senior footy? And Didn't TV's Senior Colts win the flag last season and all those youngsters be Zero points?

The issue of changing the points system has been discussed by all HFL Clubs and voted on - there will be no changes to the points system for 2009. All clubs will have to remain within the 35 point limit. Individual Clubs cannot get an exemption to this requirement.

For the uneducated (me) how does the points system work ? Is it based around local vs imported players ? Does it cause alot of conjecture ??
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Would be interesting to see how close some teams are to the 35 points. And if it is being policed correctly/ if it has been as effective as they thought it would have been. I think giving the bottom teams for the previous year more points would be a more effective way of making the comp more competative.

Cutting the points of the higher placed teams would make for more competition as all "point" players lose a point after a season of service. By cutting the points you restrict the ability of the higher placed teams to recruit more good players to fill their allocated points. It also makes it easier on the lower placed sides that only need 1 or 2 better recruits to have an impact
