Thought I'd have a look and see how close you are to the world records etc...

You're up there with Europe, Oceania, South America and poor old Antarctica...just hope you're not chasing Libya's record  :(

Don't think I've ever seen a forecast temperature that hot before.

I haven't. It probably gets forecasted now and again in the WA Pilbara region.

In January 2001 both Ceduna and Wudinna had forecast temperatures of 48, and it got to that in both places.

I guess it depends on when the change comes or how much cloud cover tomorrow with these temperatures.

Think they are only forecasting 38-39 for Ceduna. When the wind swings round to the South-west and come off the ocean, the temp can drop pretty dramatically - today it got to 46 just after lunch, and was 45 at 2.30, then by 2.45 it was only 30

There is some doubt for those African and American temperatures, I've read they are more likely to be 2c cooler than that. This is for the same reason that the Australian record was for a long time quoted to be 53.1c at Cloncurry in Queensland, it was supposedly measured under a verandah in a beer crate. The people of Cloncurry were not happy that their record was taken off them in about 2004. I actually just read the Wiki entry for Cloncurry and it tells you that there anyway. ;)

I noticed that Melbourne gets that sort of weather, "the four seasons in one day" ;)

 I guess it doesn't get more Aussie than that. Can't blame the poor buggers for getting upset at losing their claim to fame though.

Death Valley there from the USA of course. Remember seeing on telly a story about this bloke who often ran 100+km runs just for fun when the temp was 50+.

The change is hitting Adelaide now, with temps maxing out at 41.5 in Adelaide and 43.6 for Parafield. Currently it's about 33.

However in Melbourne, they have now had the hottest day on record, 45.7.

Melbourne is now up to 46, only .2 away from the capital city record set by Perth in 1991 - 46.2.
