2009 Fixtures

Postby FOURTH ESTATE » Tue Feb 10, 2009 12:43 pm

The AFL makes their fixture available in early October. Most clubs look at the draw and try to arrange either past player days or function that do not clash with AFL games.

The SAAFL decide not to release a fixture until 1 month before the season.
This is an absolute piece of Crap way to run a competition.

The fixture should be released by Christmas for divisions 1-5 with out failure.

The reason that this is not done is due to several sides (College Poofters) not knowing if their grounds are available due to school football.

The League should do the fixture and if a college side’s home game is programmed when their ground is unavailable bad luck. Why should the rest of the league be held up to suit these 4-5 clubs?

The C1 – C5 comp is also a joke, teams are getting belted by huge margins every week. It should be based up level of ability not where you’re A grade is placed; this is a very stupid rule and does not give all sides a level playing field. This rule is similar to the north-south comp and we have proved that C grade sides will travel.

The VAFA have already done theirs and it is on their website and they have just as many clubs as we do.

The league needs to start recognising the contributions that clubs make.

At the moment there is no reward for being a D1 club any more other than higher umpire fees.

Do the fixture for D1 first then the fixture each of the C grades & D grades for those clubs to ensure home games.

Then do the rest of the draw grade by grade and release the draw for D1-D5 by Christmas and finalise the rest of the draw after the close off date.

If the league is unable to do the draw by Christmas appoint a committee of intelligent delegates (There are plenty of smart club people running clubs) to draw up the fixtures to allow clubs some time for strategic planning for the following season.

Our club has mapped out the entire year and many hours of hard work could be all for nothing if we do not get the two home games as requested, as we have to manage 7 premiership reunions this year. That is a lot of past players to contact with and we are at the whim of a league that seems to not care about any one at the moment and is steered by a rudderless CEO

Geez mate, did you get out of the wrong side of the bed this morning, wouldn't you rather have one copy of the fixture without it being amended a few times. Yes, it would be great if they could get it done early but practically speaking, it has to wait.

I do think that the top few div's should and could be sorted by now, going on last years nominations, there would be a few hiccups from div. 6 down, they do have a lot of clubs and divisions to get right, I'd rather see them hold out a bit and get it right the first time. No doubt there'll be some clubs pull sides out or nominate extra teams, the SAAFL has to cater for all.

It can't be that hard to do a draw for D1-D5 down before christmas.
It is all A Grade sides. The VAFA can do it why can't we.

Didn't get out of the wrong side of bed today it is my day off today so I thought I would blog today for something different to do.

We have had a CEO who was swanning around Ireland for 3 weeks and then 7 weeks holiday over Christmas. Would have thought the state of the competition and the integrity of how it was run was paramount before all of the juggernauts took place. One would hope that our CEO and Execs are not over tired or burdened to hurry up and make some decisions that should have been made last year when Edwardstown did their dummy spit.

You've already mentioned this in another thread Free Willy. I think you've more than made your point. The exec committee can't be blamed for Scotch's indecisivness.
