While watching all of this unfold I was fairly objective.
However, i'll let the the last word in this post (before I go to bed full of Jameson's Run red - could be a sponsorship deal there...) be the message that I sent to Jabber not long after the final whistle: C*nts.

I don't buy this vitriol for Muscat. If the man needed to go to a club, I'd bring him to AU in an instance. I believe people dislike him because of his arrogance-cum-confidence and his endeavours to stretch the rules to breaking point. The same thing was said about Wayne Carey, but I have no qualms in saying Carey was a complete God on the field. I'm not saying Muscat is in that same category, but I believe a lot of dislike thrown his way is simply because he's a good player in a better team that wins.

As for the comment that Og's yellow card was unfair. I completely disagree. At the time it happened and upon seeing the replay, I thought the yellow card for bumping Allsop or whoever it was to the ground was completely in line with the rules. It was a moment of stupidity from Og that left him in a position where he was one decent tackle away from a send off. The whistle had clearly blown, he was just exercising a bit of physicality on the opposition at the wrong time.

He did the same thing in the AU v MV first leg semi-final when he nailed Muscat (or whoever that was).

is australia the only place in the world of soccer where play-offs actually decide who is the seasons champion, just a little curious as to why the a-league isnt just decided by who finishes top at the end of the minor round.

I believe its because some idiot decided it'd be fun or better for crowds years back and so a series of idiots thereafter have chosen not to change that. There's no doubt in my mind the league needs to move in-line with the rest of the football world. I lived in England for years and I always thought whoever came top deserved to be crowned champions, as over the course of the season, they have proven themselves the best team in the league. Accordingly, Melbourne would of been champions!

Well, here I am on Sunday morning - thankfully not hungover despite my meeting with Bacchus last night - and I'm disappointed about last night's loss.
We had opportunities to steal a goal, Salley's header, Ago's stride, but couldn't seal the deal. A bit like the rest of the season really. How much did that 3-3 draw against CCM come back to haunt us? A win there and we'd at least have had some silverware this year.
CSB, I understand your comments a few posts back about how we shouldn't take much from the game but I disagree.
I'd totally agree with you if we'd had 11 players on the field throughout the game, and not been handed a pineapple that was shoved fair in the proverbial, or if Christiano had been sent off for an undisciplined act rather than through a poor decision. I could accept that we weren't good enough then.
We'll never know what would've happened had we had a full complement on the pitch.
What I take from last night, and I'm sure the club will take, is that the boys fought on and they fought hard. They battled it out, played with pride and didn't drop their heads.
Victory were under pressure and before that goal was scored, you could see it. And who did we see it most in? Mr Muscat. His face showed mottled rage when things weren't going his way.
Sadly they scored and the pressure went back on us.
Well battled Reds.

As for Muscat. I would never have him at my club. However, it isn't he that beats us. It's not even the myth of him. It's our misguided focus on him. He's so clever in distracting the opposition - he even did it in the final minute. When that free kick was held up due to a distraction in the box, forcing a further delay in our last attack, who was there? Ol' Muscat. Redirecting our attention and ultimately the ref's. Cornthwaite should have known better than to respond.
He's a prick - but a clever one. Sadly we forget that when we play him.

The bump on Allsopp that Og got the yellow for? Borderline. He got the yellow for continuing to play after the whistle, but Allsopp continued to play after the whistle blew too, what was Og supposed to have done?

Anyway, I predicted in November the Victory would win. They had too much depth and class, as well as an attack that didn't misfire and lurch.
We need more from Christiano next season if we are to succeed. You win competitions by scoring goals - I don't think we kicked enough this year.

Congrats Victory.

Gutted...

as for the Red card they seriously need to bring in a video ref or a challenge system like most other sports, it would take no time and they would ge the decision RIGHT

One positive is this is great for the competition and rivalry, hang in there red fans how sweet qwill it be to win in the next year....have enjoyed the ride this year and a great substitute for footy in the off season

Nope, Muscat is hated because he breaks legs and snaps ankles.
He was the most hated player in the NSL when with the Melbourne Knights.
He is/was the most hated player in the UK because of his fowl tackles and tactics.
He is now the most hated person in the A League.
IMO, nothing to do with arrogance-cum-confidence...however I agree he stretches the rules to breaking point but the fact he squeals like an innocent pig everytime he;s caught doesn't endear himself to fans either.

Still astounded he got away with that stomp in the semi.
Even the media seems to have virtually ignored it.

Gotta admit, I agree with CS (although very much disagree on another post) ... Muscat often strays outside the rules, but he get's results, and every team can use someone like that, I'd take him at Hindmarsh.

Nope I'm on Smithy's side of things here. If Muscat took it as he gave it then no problem. The fact he squeals makes him a dirty pig in my eyes. No way would I want him in my team....EVER !

He is past is as well if you haven't noticed, he was in the team because he is captain. That is all.

They did review it and they gave him the benefit of the doubt, something that wasn't affored to Christiano...

Very happy with the boys effort. We could have capitualted (again) after the Red card but this time the boys dug deep and with a bit of luck we could have had one of the great wins in Australian sport. On the other side of the coin tho is that Melbourne were the better team over the season (they beat us with ten men during the season, belted us in both prelims etc) and deserved to be premiers based on the entire years performances.

As for Muscat i despise the man but would still gladly accept him at the marsh. He played 4 or 5 beautiful through balls in this game alone and have lost count the amount of times he has bossed the midfield against us.

Hopefully we can cover our many losses over the winter and take the next step in 09/10

Im sure i seen cornthwaite point to something on his face and show the ref and then it looked like he wiped something off???
Or is it that i hate allsop so much that i wish that he was branded as as a spitter.
