Just on the above comment. My understanding while living in the UK, was that video evidence could only be brought into the equation if the referee DID NOT take action while on the field. This was controversial in England, because when I was there an incident received publicity because Paul Scholes committed an offence, for which he got away with on the field, but video evidence later convicted him. Ashley Cole or Joe Cole, can't remember which one, commited a similar offence a couple of weeks later, but because he got a warning or yellow card at the time, video evidence could not be used to convict him of the red he certainly deserved. The reason given was that Cole was dealt with at the time by the referee, whereas Scholes was not. This loop hole was a talking point for some time. So I would have thought this rule was the same here as it is for the EPL. Just my thoughts...

yeah, but that's the point Hammers. Chritiano didn't lead with an elbow. Whatch it happen, and watched hald a dozen replays, and no way imo was Christiano aiming with an elbow. Looked a pretty cert accident to me. Arm was straight out, no ben of the elbow and it didn't appear that Christiano made any arm movement either, well deliberately anyway.

Just on the thing about quality. I was talking to the lads at football on Saturday, and mentioned that I had watched the game. One asked about the quality and I immediately said, Barnsley v Norwich.

It looks to be his forearm more than anything, close to the elbow, but I don't think it was his elbow that hit. As for intent he had his eyes fixed on the ball the entire time and hit the ball squarely if he was intending to hit Vargas would he have been able to head it so well??

I will only say it once again.

Any time you make contact to another players HEAD with an ELBOW you leave yourself wide open to be sent off.

I'll stick with my opinion which was agreed to by a World Cup referee. Alot of people on this forum are the reason work places like my own can't find umpires/referees for all the sports we offer.

And rooster marty you say im biased yet in a post before your's i wrote that i thought Adelaide had the worst of the refereeing.

It wasn't deserving of a red, and the FFA have vindicated this. Simply Breeze and the sideline ref ****** up, with BOTH Cristiano & Allsopp.

Now look at the footage, where is Cristiano looking ? Are Vargas' arms down including elbows ? Absolutely no way that is a red card. Cristiano had nothing but eyes for the ball, he won the header and if anything Vargas jumps with his elbows up too, just that Cristiano out jumped him.

whufc, wtfdtm or in simple terms,What the f@ck does that matter, common sense and a knowledge of any form of sport could see that was accidental contact. I've never played or been a ref but I have a couple of things that the Breeze and his type don't have, one of them is the ability to see things with an open mind and the other is to not try to be a policeman.
Both very good and necessary qualities for anyone wishing to officiate in any sport imaginable.

Anyone who has reffed before knows how much harder it is to make these decisions in real speed and from 15-30 meters away compared to watching a dozen or so super slow mo's. That reason alone would have been why the blood impacted on his decision.

And by the sounds of it the refeerees assistant was a major contributor into the red card, yet no one has bagged or critisied him.

As for Christiano having eyes on the ball. I wish i got a $1 for every time i was looking at the ball yet gave my opponent a nudge, bump, elbow, push etc geez some males can do more than one thing at a time.

Like i said i thought he made bigger errors in the game like the penalty shout Adelaide had in the first half when the Melbourne play clearly had hold of the Adelaide guys arm.

Dinglinga, i look forward to playing against you again this season, you might to have to give me a quick sledge about this topic when we play, Do you know if the league have done this years fixtures yet.

And in all seriousness, since we have so many expert referees on this site would anyone like the chance to earn some extra cash at the recreation center i work at refeering mens and ladies indoor soccer.

We have had to call of a few nights recentley due to a lack of ref's which obviously isn't good for business. We pay the standard rate of $15 per game the games last for half an hour so works out to be $30 an hour.

It's in the Northern Suburbs, competitions run on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday night, if your interested PM me.
