Hughes brings up his ton by hitting the massive hack Harris for a four and 2 sixes. Absolutely superb knock from Hughes. He is a star. Harris is a useless hack who should p1ss of back to some suburban club where he still shouldn't get a bowl.

All 150+ partnerships since Hayden and Langers last

I had reservations about him being introduced too early. I knew he was a special talent though and hasn't he proved that. One of the best knocks i have seen for a long time. The guy will become the best batsman in the world.

Hughes 106
Katich 56

so far 27 x 4's and 2 x 6's. That is a very high percentage in boundaries i would have thought.

Not before he gets dropped first. He'll find out in 12 months time what test cricket is all about when sides work him out. However that wont stop him playing 150 + tests and captaining Australia.

Is it fair to say realistically South Africa won the first 2 tests in Australia because we purely under-estimated them. We have won the last 2, this one we look ok at the moment (Touch wood). Is it a case that we have found South Africa out before they even know their own personal weaknesses?? The Australian tacticians and match observers need to take their hat off if this test becomes a win for Australia.

I know that happens to most but Hughes has something very special about him. His attitude and temperament are not what you normally find in a 20 year old. He is just an amazing player who could defy the trend you are talking of. I have no doubt he will captain Australia one day as you suggest.

Mwahaha.

What a masterclass this partnership is; having said that, they are going the right way for a result on this pitch. And that is to score quickly and get a big score in little time as possible.

Super observation spelly, does not matter how good the pitch is IF Australia can put 500 on the board there is all the pressure in the world on South Africa.

rod_rooster wrote:Paul Harris has quickly become one of my most disliked cricketers. Firstly he is no good. He just bowls rubbish. Mitchell Johnson gave him exactly what he deserved in the first test. Secondly he thinks he is causing the batsmen trouble. He couldn't turn a ball if he was bowling on the driest most uneven deck ever seen yet he still throws his arms in the air in disbelief that the balls that he throws 3 feet outside off stump don't jag back and hit the stumps. I know bowlers like Warne and Murali use gamesmanship with such theatrics to build pressure on batsmen but those guys had the weapons to back it up. FFS even i would be embarrassed to get out to Harris. He is so very very ordinary that i wonder why Australia are concerned about our spin bowling options. It surely couldn't be as bad as Harris. How does he get a game. If he is the best spin bowling option in South Africa then they have a lot more problems than the Aussies.

Mate I don't mind him in the same way I don't mind Nel, its all part of his game to get batsmen going hard at him so he can get wickets. Given the way we Australians play cricket we can't grumble if players from other countries use "get under their skin" tactics.

However Hughes used the best tactics and exposed Harris for what he is an ordinary spinner - ignore him and when the inevitale bad ball comes along cash in... Even HArris is smart enough to know to keep his mouth shut when he is getting spanked....

It will happen to him too Rod. It's just unavoidable. Even Ponting was dropped twice before he settled in. Clarke once so far.

Everyone does because the bowlers keep working out the weak spots and the batsman have to keep working on their game to find new strengths. Although I agree I his temperament seems great he should get fully established in the team younger than most.

He looks great, no question. A real find for us. But it's not uncommon for batsman to burst on the scene with early big scores before the bowlers have had a good look at them. Greg Blewett anyone?

Well done Phil Hughes, great knock for a 20 YO =D>
